Upbeatz: When you are raising capital for the first time, as a founder, it is very difficult to juggle between running a company and raising funds simultaneously. You have no defined route to go about making the pitch deck and the necessary steps to follow.
As a matter of fact, we tend to believe that if we spend more time in perfecting the deck into making it rock solid and appealing, it is enough to raise funds. But we miss out on the most important elements: the conviction in the idea and the delivery of the pitch.
The book beautifully outlines a step by step process on things you need to do before you deliver your first pitch to the VCs. It will change your thought process on the entire journey of raising funds and greatly improve your ability to persuade others to invest in you and your ideas.
The principles in the book, including Forget Yourself, Rule of 21 & Story Of Us will give you strength and knowledge to represent the customer you are looking to serve.
The live examples of stories of founders from companies like Dollar Shave Club, Airbnb, Method and Away, really helps understand the principles and how to use it.

Cyrus Karkaria: It’s an excellent book

eyupsharpyeyupsharpy: It’s a 264-page long book. But over 100 pages are the appendix. This is worth knowing before you decide to buy. I was what I thought was halfway through reading the book when it finished. I was quite shocked. The appendix is a summary of the book (useful at just 11 pages long). The rest of the book is a selection of interviews the author did, which you may or may not find interesting. I’ve not read any of them yet.
The overall content is helpful in parts but did feel a little top line. I feel it needs explaining in the marketing copy how much of the book is the core content. I did think I’d bought something that was less than promised.
The author clearly has great experience, and means well, with ideas that are supported by lots of titbits he has picked up by speaking to lots of people.
I found it a bit disjointed, very short for £14:99, but I will keep the summary pages as a reference.
The photo shows the book folded at the point it finishes.

Andrew Ahachinsky: Suneel charms you with his charisma and takes you through his personal life journey...Stop. No, instead it gets a Lot better. Suneel shares how to be convincing, how to fall in love with your project. Can someone teach you the science of how to fall in love? You bet Suneel knows how. When you start reading Backable, the “aha” gets you every chapter with your own personal echoes of “I remember how I failed to pitch to X” and yet he shows the way. Better he guides you to the journey of how to become the ideal you, how to become Backable. Is this book only applicable to venture funding and entrepreneurship? Hell no, how about being backable in your own life? Would you rather be the person whom others want to support in just about every walk of life or will you be extra in your on-life movie? That’s for you to decide, but if you choose to be backable - go read Backcable!

Sunny in SoCalSunny in SoCal: I ordered a copy of Backable because (i) I went to law school with the author; and (ii) after launching several failed startups I was hoping to find a few pearls of wisdom about where I went wrong. But the reason that I’m wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommending it in this review is because I truly believe that Backable is a book that everyone will benefit from reading. Why? Because as Gupta puts it nicely in the Introduction, “in order to succeed, you need to get out and inspire people to see in you what you see in yourself” — and Backable helps you make adjustments in your style and approach to accomplish this goal.
There are several elements to highlight that I think work particularly well in this book. The first is that Backable doesn’t have hundreds of extra pages of fluff (as noted by Gupta in Appendix 2, this is actually by design “to give you a book that you could absorb quickly and put into practice immediately”) which I really appreciate — I absolutely can’t stand it when a book essentially repeats the same concept over and over in slightly different ways when it could have been said more concisely! Each section (referred to as...

John W. Pearson: It’s only March and I’ve already read another guaranteed Top-10 book for 2021. When it arrived, I read the intro—and then I just couldn’t put it down. (The sizeable stack of other “to-read” books just glared at me!)
Suneel Gupta, the author of “Backable,” was invited to speak at FailCon—aka the Failure Conference! His track record of big busts was so legendary, he writes, that the “New York Times” wrote “a full-length story on failure, with my face at the top.”
He adds, “I had spent an entire career trying to craft an image of success. Now I was the poster child for defeat. My inbox was jammed with consolation messages. My parents offered to help pay that month’s rent.”
But there was an upside. “I decided to give this new identity a try. I began emailing highly successful people using the ‘Times’ article to break the ice. I’d write things like, ‘As you can see from the article below, I don’t know what I’m doing. Would you be willing to grab coffee and give me some advice?’”
What he learned: “People who change the world around them aren’t just brilliant … they’re backable. They have a seemingly...

Martin B.: One of the best litmus tests of a great book is when you find yourself wanting to buy it for family and friends immediately after reading it. And that’s exactly what happened to me when I finished Suneel Gupta’s inspiring first book, Backable. Its origins are found in the author’s experience starting, funding, growing, and finally selling a health tech startup. Gupta’s own self-doubt and failures on that difficult journey, despite his previous achievements as an executive at companies like Groupon, paved the way for developing a new mindset and cogent framework to approach and convince others to believe in him and his ideas. In other words, to become Backable.
But don’t be fooled thinking this book is just for entrepreneurs. Many people – from high school and college students to doctors and veteran business professionals – will find value in the actionable advice Gupta shares. His accessible ideas are distilled down to a seven-step approach that includes practical and memorable steps like “Cast a Central Character” and “Flip Outsiders to Insiders.” These steps are bolstered by Gupta’s own history and his numerous interviews with successful leaders...
