lcpossum: I bought this book for my girlfriend who has a strange idea of life in the US for black folks. She was raised in Hanoi and we both live in Hanoi and I'd guess she could count the number of black folks she's ever seen on on hand. I stressed to her that most of these photos are ages old. She absolutely loves the book as I did when I thumbed through it before giving it to her. This is a photographic record of the old days, back when the US was still a free country.

Adrian: This book truly opened my eyes. It took me on an informative journey through the history of both the New York Times and black history. It's very well written. Although the entire photos in the book are in black and white they get the point across in clear view. For example and without giving to much away in 1948 President Truman appointed the first black governor of the Virgin Islands and although the two men were shaking hands when the photo appeared in the Time's it was shown with the two men standing side by side. You'll have to read the book to see who the other man was. I whole heartily recommend anyone from the young to the not so young to read this book I'm sure that you'll be politely informed.
