martha williams: Thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially as it had me looking up things of interest to me (Ottine Swamp, Great Dismal Swamp) to check into them further. That's how I know I'm having a good read, when it inspires additional research. I also enjoyed "blowing up" the swamp photos to have a closer look. Makes me want to go exploring. I was actually a bit disappointed when the book ended, I could have read on and on...! The writing style is also right up my alley, and well edited to boot. Thank you for some enjoyable time spent Mr. Blackburn.

Van Hillard: Lyle's new book is immensely informative and an absolute blast. Lyle has become a master at storytelling and this book illustrates precisely why: his warm, gracious tone, coupled with user-friendly but cinematic prose. It's one of those books you can easily catch yourself gobbling up in a single night, provided you're cool with sleeping with the light(s) on. I especially dug the chapter about the Caddo Triangle (I am originally from Shreveport, LA --the belly button of said triangle), which was the spooktastic landscape that provided ample fodder for my imagination when was young, and the primary reason I have been a steadfast cryptid enthusiast for basically all of my life.
Enthusiastically recommend this book!

Derek Childs: I'm an avid reader of books on Cryptozoology and general weirdness, but this is the first Lyle Blackburn book I've picked up. I am a huge fan of his writing style. It's very similar to Linda Godfrey's. It's not standoffish. It's very personable and easy to digest. Lyle gets in there and gets his hands dirty. He has visited the places he talks about and tells the legends and tales circulating around them. He also presents the information, offers debunks, and lets the reader take it from there. This collection dives deep into a plethora of swampy locations.
I'm a fan! Just picked up his Lizard Man book and ripped through that too. All his books are thoroughly researched and exciting to read! Hungry for more!

Travis: I prefer Lyle’s earlier books where he spends considerable time on just one cryptid creature but this sampling of stories from various swamps throughout the US was an interesting survey of what might be out there.

p. sutton: I like Kyle Blackburn's style of writing and this one does not disappoint. very interesting and the stories he relates sound a lot more plausible than some others. I would recommend him to anyone interested in cryptids.
