shawn keith: Such a great book and while it's not short I feel like the surface was barely even scratched and I will be continuing my journey by utilizing the suggested readings at the end of the book.

L Bryden: A very comprehensive discussion covering all the early western spiritual theorists including the founders of Kabalah and Golden Dawn. Who devised them, and who belonged to which secret (at the time) spiritual group. Israel Regardie has brought an objective viewpoint that weaves between them explaining how they relate, with an in depth knowledge gained as a member of the various groups and learning their teachings.
He disagreed with the secrecy and the egos that eventually led to their disbandment.
I highly recommend this book if you are interested in discovering what all the current western spiritual mythologies base their teachings on.
If you've already gathered information as you journey along your own spiritual path this book will provide aha moments about what you suspected were smoke and mirror myths and what has provided real resonance for you.
The Magic depends on how deep and regular your spiritual meditation practice is, on raising your vibration through this practice and strengthening your connection to source.

shcotty: There are alot of interesting points but alot of rubbish to wade through to uncover the points as relating to my own practice. The fact that the 'magicians' think they kind order A.A Michael to do their bidding was quite frankly ridiculous. Somebody needs to whisper in his ear.... remember you are only a man. Remember you are only a man. That is not to say we are not capable of the fantastic. Credit to information on the Merkaba and astral travel and warnings against being addicted to the astral realms. So, yes worth a read but a bit cumbersome at times.

Herman Menderchucks Armada: Edit: It took a little while, but eventually I was able to pick up the flow of the author and it's not as bad as my original impression. There is a glut of information here. A lot of texts and correspondences I've read elsewhere have started to make more sense after reading through Tree of Life. I keep returning to read and re-read lines in this book because it is so valuable.
This book covers a lot of ground and will be useful to me. However, the author's writing style is way over-the-top with flowery language, run on sentences, and so forth. I'm going to have to take notes to distill ideas in this book down to manageable chunks of information, which in the long run may prove worthwhile.

Syd Weedon: If someone asked me to recommend a book that would help a modern mind understand ceremonial magick in the tradition of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, I would give them this one. Regardie served as Aleister Crowley's personal secretary for several years and was himself a member of the HOGD.Where Crowley can be terribly opaque in his writing, Regardie is clear and reasonable. Regardie believed that the real traditions and operations of the Golden Dawn needed to be shared with the world rather than kept secret because he feared that the secret societies would fade away and the knowledge would be lost. This book is truly a classic and a "must read" for those desiring a deeper understanding of magick.

Private: I only wish I had found this book sooner but better to have later then to never have had the opportunity to read it. Now I have one in my collection. This book explains everything about Magick, how and why it works, and it is written by a man who was once a member of The Golden Dawn, so you know this is about Real Magick. Although there are many books out there about Magick, this one differs not only because of the indepth detail in which Regardie writes, but the passion in which he does it in. The language he uses which makes even the most complicated seem simple and easy understand.

Mr G Kerridge: A great book covering many of the different aspects of magick. Difficult to understand in places as uses archaic language and lots of unfamiliar terms. This is not a book for the fainthearted, but with perseverance a treasure trove of information that will be indispensable to anyone's spiritual journey and provides a solid intellectual foundation for much of the field... It really helps you understand the metaphysics and theory of Magick. I bought this as a first dip into this world and was not put off, but a bit confused at times. I would recommend reading this in conjunction with a more practical book such as Kraig

J. Worthen: I've read the material contained in The Tree of Life a hundred times in a hundred other books. Those books are a but a shadow of this one. Each of those others list this one in their bibliography while they try to re-tell it as well. None have succeeded. Those other books have their place, but this very well written tome is at the foundation of modern magick.
There are a couple of things I might mention to the potential reader. Though containing a good explanation of the Qabalah, contrary to the title, the book is really about Ceremonial Magick in its many forms. At times, Regardie approaches the subject as an apologist arguing around Blavatsky's Theosophical Society's tenants, which were the fashion at the time of the writing. The debate is mostly lost on modern readers but doesn't detract from the work and is completed in the early chapters.
Regardie's only stumble, in my option, is his chapter on alchemy, the last "narrative" chapter of the book. Here Regardie describes the art of alchemy as a spiritual process only and doesn't delve into the possibility of an actual chemical practice. Regardie's book The Philosphers's Stone carries on this narrow interpretation...

Andrew M: Want a break down of magic? Want to get a true understanding of that which has been tainted and distorted by Hollywood and media? This book offers that and so much more. This should be a staple in any magicians/occultists/scholars library.
