Warren T.D.: Once my X-ray vision began to decline with age, I began to consider installing a door viewer. This one did the trick. Easy to install, solid, and attractive. It's just too bad these can't be installed in other contexts in which my X-ray vision was once helpful.

David J.: Works well, but because it's the internal side that is used to tighten it to the door, it's challenging to get the hinge of the cover in the right spot and installed tightly. Other than that, it's a great safety device and I recommend it.

Better Half: Claims to require a 9/16 (.5625") hole. The threaded section is indeed 9/16 inch but the part it goes into is .618 inches (roughly 5/8") so if all you have is a 9/16" bit, it won't fit. The barrel of the inner section and a flange on the outer section will require a 5/8 bit. Since I was replacing one on an apartment door and the existing hole is only 9/16" I have to return this. It's not my door so I can't be making a bigger hole.

G. Raine: I bought this to replace a peep-hole camera. It was very fancy: it had a motion sensor that took pictures of everyone who came anywhere near my door. Zillions of pictures of the top of my head as I unlocked the door! It burned through batteries so fast that it almost never worked -- the batteries were always dead. This viewer cost less than 10% as much and it ALWAYS works. And although I don't really need it, I like the little privacy closure.
In response to other comments about the prominence of the brand name printed on that closure, I can see that it could be a problem with a shiny viewer -- it would stand out. I bought the antique bronze version and the brand name is practically invisible.
