Jirair D.: "Tim Cook: The Genius Who Took Apple to the Next Level" is a captivating and insightful biography that delves into the life and achievements of one of the most significant figures in the tech industry. Written by Leander Kahney, this book provides a detailed account of Tim Cook's journey and his transformative leadership at Apple.

One of the standout features of this book is the author's ability to provide a balanced portrayal of Tim Cook. Kahney portrays Cook as a meticulous and detail-oriented executive who played a crucial role in Apple's success. RedLine: Some interesting tidbits of information on Tim Cook’s formative years at IBM and other companies before joining Apple. The book falls short on providing interesting background material based on actual interviews with people that knew Tim well or situational examples of his character. It’s overly positive and and not critical or insightful enough about Cook. My benchmarks of a great book to get into the psyche of a profound business leader were Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance and Shoe Dog by Phil Knight himself, this book falls short from these.

Eric: I read this biography over the past weekend, and have read many of Leander's other books in the past. 📚 This one provides a lot of insight into Tim Cook's motivations and processes he perfected at Apple that make anything he touches turn to gold. Plus Tim has many core values, and a way of conducting himself, that I can really relate to. It’s a great read for anyone in business, and fans of Apple.

The author had access to Tim & Apple facilities in a way few others have, so the first two thirds of the book is extremely interesting, digging deep in to Tim's history, childhood, and life at Apple. The final third of the book is mostly regurgitated facts that are already available and known, but it rounds out the story, especially for those who don't already know so much about the Apple CEO.

Charles W. Houseworth: I had eagerly anticipated this book. Tim Cook has been the CEO of one of the world’s most valuable companies for almost nine years. Yet, ironically, this is the first detailed attempt in book form to closely examine the man’s background leading up to his assuming control after Steve Jobs’ death in 2011 and the influence that he has had in re-shaping the culture of Apple Inc. while bringing the company’s market capitalization to a staggering trillion dollars.

Kahney opens with a quick introduction entitled “Killing It” which summarizes the industry dominance that Apple currently enjoys and makes it clear that Cook gets a lion’s share of the credit. He goes on to introduce the six core values that Cook has ingrained in the company’s strategy: accessibility; education; environment; inclusion and diversity; privacy and security; and supplier responsibility. These lay the groundwork for very detailed discussion in the second half of the book of Cook’s passion for coupling good strategy with good values and his success in achieving it.

The first chapter describes in some detail the interesting specifics of the leadership handover from Steve Jobs to Tim...

Abhik: I've always been interested in Mr. Cook's work, primarily because he was initially positioned as the second act to a larger than life corporate entrepreneur. Over the years, I have read multiple articles about him and was keen to know more. The book allows you to have a good look into his life, covering both granular details such as decline in Apple share prices due to errors in forecasting sales to more abstract issues such as Mr. Cook's value system.

At multiple points, I felt that the book overly relied on Steve Jobs or Apple to carry the story forward. Considering that there is already a lot of literature available on Mr. Jobs, the author should have focused more on his subject. The book provides a wealth of information about Apple's other initiatives, such as improving diversity and sustainability. The chapters about these steps provide an opaque potrayal about his role in the larger picture. At some point, it feels like you are reading a shareholder letter about how is Apple becoming a greener, cleaner and better organization. Additionally, if you have read a lot of articles about Mr. Cook or Apple in general, you will get a feeling of deja vu when reading some...
