Comments

Lagoon: Serge is working with his former nemesis and ex cop Mahoney to clear up a gang running scams in his beloved Florida. Tiger Shrimp Tango sees Serge really pushing the envelope when it comes to ingenuity in dispatching bad guys. Highlights include, but are not limited to,Mentoes,Cuban cigars, lobsters and buses. Coleman takes credit for the Mentoes usage and the sweets feature throughout this adventure to great comic effect.

Serge has a love interest this time round but, true to form,Serge keeps his ladies at a distance. Thinning the ranks of Florida’s scammers is a full time job and Coleman is the only distraction that Serge will tolerate.

There is a bit more grit to this novel as Serge is targeted by a hitman but the madcap antics that Serge and Coleman endure ensure that the entertainment level is always on a par with the threat level.

Another rollicking addition to the series.

ST: Hard to find anything new to say about this series. The fact that it's going strong after 19 volumes, says a lot in itself. I rarely stick with a series for more than 3 or 4. Even though they are somewhat formulaic and some might be deemed better than others--depending on the deemer--there isn't one of them that doesn't have something in it that makes it worth reading. Even though this one is a little weak in the beginning it takes off like a rocket shortly thereafter. My favorite part, although it's all a brilliant, mind-boggling riot, was the porn movies. I think people tend to forget that the man behind Serge, who I consider to be the most brilliantly drawn character in all of fiction (and I have read plenty) can't be anything short of a genius. The books being so wacky, I wonder if people truly realize how awesome, in the true sense of the word, Dorsey really is. No wonder women chase him around Florida; who wouldn't give anything just to talk to him for a few minutes? No worries Tim, I'm poor and live far away, therefore, content to worship from afar.

Cheryl B. Dale: Fair warning: hero Serge is one of my favorite characters, warped as he is. Timid people who find violence and bloody but funny ends repugnant shouldn't even attempt the series.

If you've read Tim Dorsey's other books, you know what to expect. A hero with an inscrutable, capricious mind (who's a tad ADD and OCD and crazy to boot); a loyal, goodnatured sidekick (who's either passed out or high on something all the time); and lots of violence directed toward villains who deserve the worst fates. And often get them. And how!

Yes, Serge is lethal to crooks, whether on or off his meds. And in this story, when he teams up with a kookie private detective, someone's bound to get hurt. Hopefully, it will be the ones perpetrating the scams bilking innocent people out of their retirement savings. But occasionally, another disgusting criminal shows up and gets his, too.

With friend Coleman following tipsily behind (with his new pet mouse), Serge leads us on another wacky crimimal hunt, seeking to avenge the average crime victim while pointing out tidbits of Florida history and scenery most people never knew or noticed. And maybe didn't even want to hear about.

But...

Yvonne Mason: Yes, I admit it. I am an addict. I am addicted to the funny bone hilarity of Serge and his side kick Coleman. Tim Dorsey never fails to leave me rolling as I ride along with Serge and Coleman on their faster than light treks through Florida. Serge can find history in any town, any marsh and any everglade as he makes his mad dash run chasing bad guys and saving the innocents. Serge make serial killing fun. He takes it to an entire new level of sophistication and with each new method (which is unheard of in the real world) he explains the method behind the madness. He is a scientist, a history buff, a knight in shinning Armour, a loyal friend and a lover of women. He is high on life and caffeine and bottle water. He doesn't drink or smoke but he doesn't discourage his best friend Coleman who smokes anything and drinks everything. These to madcap criminals will keep the reader laughing and slapping their thighbone until the end of the last page. Then the reader will be begging for the next adventure like a crazed addict.

Rob: With this latest entry in the Serge Storms series, Tim Dorsey has hit (yet) another one out of the park! More unique murder techniques... Tupperware... the best muscle car of the whole series... copious amounts of Florida history & trivia... a recipe for homemade napalm... ostriches... Coleman taking a zip-line ride across countless alligators while on mescaline... even more Tupperware.... and of course, our heroes aimlessly roaming around the Sunshine state in an effort to avoid the progression of the book's plot! - This one has it all you'd come to want and expect from a Serge book!

If you're already a fan of Serge and Coleman, you'll love this latest entry into the series. And, if you're not... after you're done crawling out of the rock you've been apparently living under (just teasing)... you will be a fan after the first few chapters. Mr. Dorsey is one of those rare authors who could legitimately offer a "money-back-guarantee-if-not-satisfied" offer on his books and never sweat making his next mortgage payment.

But since this is a review on the Audio version of Tiger Shrimp Tango, I let me say this - If there's one thing better than a Tim Dorsey novel, it is...
