The Lost Boys of Sudan are a group of Sudanese refugees whose story of perseverance and courage has inspired many. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, civil war and famine in Sudan caused thousands of young boys to flee their homes in search of safety. After walking hundreds of miles, they arrived in refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya where they were cared for by the United Nations. Judy A. Bernstein was one of the individuals who heard their story and took action. She founded the Lost Boys Foundation to help the boys find a better life in the United States.
