David: This devotional book it's a must-have every one again Christian, the Lord truly blessed me with this book many years ago when He was leading me and gotten me and waiting on him to form some promises he personally made to me, He used this book to make waiting on Him much easier through the leading of his Holy Spirit. Alex Deveault: For many years, I've had Beside Still Waters by CH Spurgeon to speak comfort, peace, wisdom, and faith into my hard times. Eventually I decided to find something that match it's likeness.

I came across this book, took a chance and bought it, and got to say, it's the best decision I made since Besides Still Waters book!

This book has priceless wisdom and speaks much comfort to my soul as well! I'm recovering from codependency as well, and usually I use The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beatie to address peace for myself and relationships. Streams in the Desert definitely has healing and meditative wisdom and talking points that sometimes helps address my codependency issues.

Streams in the Desert makes for a wonderful middle ground between The Language of Letting Go and Beside Still Waters! Love it so much!

Ian Acheson: This is a much loved devotional that has served the test of time. It features the writings of many of the greats who's heart and passion for the Lord is inspiring. This edition also includes 3 appendices at the back: indexes for author, Scripture reference and subject. I wish I had discovered this earlier as one of my frustrations with the book was the lack of consistency in subject/theme which I found a distracting.

Each day's devotional starts with a verse which the commentary relates too. Most days are one to 1.5 pages long.

There are many wonderful contributions that left me pondering for hours during the day but also many that I simply read and moved on. A mixed bag.

I could see great merit in using the subject index as a useful reference guide to read particular devotionals and may indeed do that in the future.

MR & MRS M: If you’re looking for an encouraging and comforting daily devotional, go for this one. I’ve been reading and rereading this devotional for 20 years now. I often buy it as a gift for friends during tough times and have purchased copies for my teenagers. Although this was originally written many, many years ago, it is as relevant as ever. It, like the Bible, is timeless and contains timeless words of wisdom and encouragement.
This is a paper back copy (it’s a hard cover one I’ve had for 20 years) but it’s still lovely quality. It takes you day by day through the year. Each day’s reading starts with a Bible verse. It then goes into words of wisdom - sometimes thoughts from inspirational Christians, teachers and missionaries from the past, sometimes short stories and often days ending with a poem. It is a revised edition, so the language used is relevant and easily understandable. It sets out to daily remind the reader of God’s great love and faithfulness through the hardest times of life. Caleb: Streams in the Desert is not the type of book you can rush reading. Even if each day's devotion is short, there's a lot of wisdom and inspiration to soak in and digest. It's truly inspired writing and I find myself often in tears even after reading one line. Of all the devotionals I've encountered, this is the one I always gravitate to because it hits me straight in the gut every single time. It gives you courage to face your trials because many of the pages speak about hope and about patience in waiting for the Lord. It tells you how each suffering has purpose, how God's seeming delay is all for our good, how our brokenness makes us beautiful, and how God never goes back on his promises. This book is the perfect companion for your faith journey. And even if I've gone through the whole book in a year, I discovered that the next time I read the same passage, the words hit me differently. Maybe because my circumstances have changed and the Lord has a different message to tell. Overall, I love this book and wouldn't hesitate giving it away as a gift. I've done so once, and will do it over again.
