Taylor: Got this for my Bible study group on the book of Mark, Keller does awesome work breaking down the passages. Great read and a good conversation starter, I would highly recommend.

Amazon Customer: As a former Catholic looking to understand my religious roots better, I was highly disappointed with this book. Every paragraph from the scriptures is followed by several pages of “authoritative interpretation” that didn’t resonate with me at all. There are many ways to look at Jesus’s teachings, but the thread I found in this book did not make me feel more connected to Him. The author does a good job of selecting relevant passages from the Bible though.

Having studied and practiced different religious traditions over the past few years, I also did not appreciate the author repeatedly saying things like “Remember, ALL other religions are basically advice, while Christianity is this and that”.

I was looking for a more objective or analytical work, this book seemed highly preachy to me.

Mama Jacquie: I was absolutely thrilled with this audiobook....There have been a very few audiobooks that I have rushed to listen to, but this was indeed one of them. I enjoyed John Stott's "The Cross of Christ" but that requires scholarship and a degree of Christian maturity, but "King's Cross" is an audiobook that can be absorbed and appreciated by even the most unfamiliar with the Christian faith as the author guides the listener through one of the gospels, The Gospel of Mark, which is the shortest of the gospels (gospels are the 4 books that detail the life of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe to be the Savior, Messiah, The Anointed One, and Promised Redeemer to The Jewish People). I just passed this onto an assistant priest in my churhc with just one or two remarks that "it communicates about the Anglican Church" worldwide (of which I am a member) and it speaks of how the center of my particular denominational branch of The (catholic) Church has shifted to Africa and South America!?!! This work is not an exhaustive study of the Gospel of Mark, rather it highlights the two primary themes of Mark: Chapters 1-8 - Christ the King - highlighting His teachings, miracles, and authority as God ; and Chapters 9-16 - Christ the Servant - highlighting His sufferings that culminate in His death on the cross.

Keller throughout this book manages to weave in and out how Jesus is the answer to all of the major questions, needs, and realities of life. Keller is able to connect so many different worlds together: The Old and New Testament worlds (which are not the same), the present and the past, the wounded and the healed, the temporal and the eternal, the worldly and the divine. Mr. Keller's writing reflects his joy in knowledge, wisdom and the foundational belief that if God is who He is in the Holy Scripture, He is as relevant today, to everyone, no matter who and where they are, as to the members of the early church. This idea comes out in spades in this book. This is not a commentary, but in many ways suggests lines of academic thought concerning the Gospel of Mark that are often neglected. The basic message that one comes away with is that of a loving God who is present and active in reconciling a broken, distant humanity to himself, in the only way that was (and still is) possible. The result of this reconciliation is one of gratefulness, transformed life and promise of eternity. These eternal truths are editorially and sometimes poetically drawn out in King's Cross.
