Nlbd: This book is good value for the price. I have this to where I can get easy access to it. Being pre diabetic this has become my kitchen bible. I highly recommend this book.

W. Allemon: The first half of this book is fantastic. It does a great job at explaining the function of insulin and the mechanics of digestion. The best I’ve seen, to be honest.

But some of the recipe ingredients are very concerning. For example, many recipes use honey. If I used raw honey in a recipe, the pure sugar will make me crash and feel sick the rest of the day. She also uses a lot of high nutrient ingredients, like almond flour. Although that will help slow digestion, it will also help pack on the pounds. Maybe the science has changed and the recipes are starting to show their age. I will make many of them, but will definitely change ingredients to more healthful substitutes. Readers who don’t know how to do this on their own will be at a loss. Perhaps a more recent book would be a better choice for them.

Covert Book Lover: I went on a search recently for cook books that could help me reverse a few lingering bad food habits. Of the books I surveyed, this is the most immediately useful that I found, in creating a fresh start. The author’s approach is practical, empathetic, informative, and refreshingly brief. She explains without belabouring her points, which makes it easier for the reader to get onto the action plan, with less guilt, than is often found in a “put down the pastry and pick up that carrot” eating plan/cookbook. Such a relief. I love that she has shopping lists broken into weeks, along with recipes. The organization is mostly very thorough.

A few notes for future editions: don’t forget to include zucchinis in the shopping list when the recipe is served over zucchini noodles; maybe use a better paper stock, because the pages don’t like to get wet, at all; author, please address the issue of allergies and substitutions for commonly used items like almonds. (I know, it’s a slippery slope, and you trust us to use our noggin.)

In general, if you’re trying to lose weight, or address an insulin issue, this book warrants a glance, in my opinion. I’m just getting...

Ng: Material is very good. Food plans???? I can't afford lamb. I need a food plan for the lower income to middle income family. Learned lots from the book the food plan was just "out there" for me. Could not use.

djmaximus: I bought the book for the recipes but ended up loving it more for the information is inside. It gave me more information about insulin resistance than my doctor did. It breaks down how to not just fight it with diet but with lifestyle and workouts.
It breaks everything down for you by the week so it is helping you manage it or at least what it should look like.
I've lost 6lbs in 1 month and that with my only half heartedly following this book. It's always hard to break habits cold turkey but I'm excited to be able to get there 100%

Jelena: Great ideas

A. Paice: A diet-y book, not very body positive, misrepresents intuitive eating and presents weight as resulting from a lack of discipline, downplays the role of genetics and privilege in health. Also not great for vegetarians due to recommendations to eat meat. Grocery lists for the plan are long - you would need a lot of time for shopping and cooking for this plan. Under the FAQ about not having time for exercise, the recommendation is to make it a priority and schedule it. I might make some of the recipes but generally not thinking this will be very useful for me.

ADE: I found this book a little fin - not that many recipes, and frankly I didn't find out so much I wasn't already aware of. A little disappointed by this item.

Kate: I pre ordered this book as recently been told I have pcos with insulin resistance. This book is full of information. The first few chapters have loads of information about what insulin resistance really mean, with very clear do's and don'ts which I found extremely helpful. I have only have a chance to try a couple of recipes but so far so good. I can't wait to cook more out of the book. I would recommen this book highly and would have got 5 if the recipes include some photos. Not essential but I do eat with my eyes so I miss the photos.
