Nathalie: I wasn't expecting to cry so much!
This book speaks to me. It tells of pain and suffering and loss as though it were my own.
Losing my best friend and my grandparents broke my heart and nearly destroyed my soul. The way Katy talks of grief is exactly the way I felt during my own periods of mourning. It's not a light-hearted book. It's real and raw and has moments that will make you smile, laugh and relate.

Anna: Katy Wix is not only a talented actress, an amazing comedian and a beautiful person, she is also a great writer.
I took my time to read this book, trying to soak it all in.
There were laughter and tears.
Grief is something unique but also incredibly unifying as we share the pain.
Unfortunately I could very much relate to her stories.

Brida: "I have often wondered if the last book you read is important. I remember the last book I read to my dad [....] The last book you read before you die is like the type of coin that gets put under your tongue for Charon. It is mental substance for your journey, something to remember as you go on your way" (p.206).
"Cakes are weird, camp objects that seem to appear whenever something emotionally devastating is happening to me. They represent everything that is false and cloying. I resent cakes: their condescending frilliness, the fact that they don't want me to tell the truth. When someone appeared with tea and cake in the middle of a family psychodrama, what they are really saying was: Let's all eat our feelings instead of expressing them" (p.2).
Delicacy is a memoir of loss, death and the traumas which can often make-up a life. Whilst I do still feel it a bit strange trying to rate a person's experiences, especially when it comes to them describing their experiences of death, I have to say that I really enjoyed this book (enjoyed - I honestly don't know what the most appropriate word would be there). Personally, I felt that the way Katy wrote made me feel that I could...

Amazonian Customer: Delicacy is Katy Wix's memoir about death, grief and cake. It consists of 21 chapters of varying length and style, 21 intimate glimpses into her life, each intrinsically connected to cake.
Raw and honest, she lays bare some of the most important relationships in her life, and is frank and fearless when she talking about her issues with food.
Many of these chapters are about her mother's final illness and surviving the grief when she died, such as "Chimney cake, or, The thoughts I have about cancer when I open my fridge door at night for a snack". Equally, "Bara brith, or, Walking with my father" charts her relationship with her father, from childhood walks in the woods to his dementia, via a terrifying car crash. Even the most poignant chapters are tinged with humour, and some are downright funny, like "Oatcakes" which consists of emails to and from her personal trainer.
Life with all its tragedy and joy has given Katy Wix a wisdom beyond her years and her memoir is a delightful way to get to know the woman behind the actress.
