Scott Whitaker: These are decently built, but they have one flaw and because of it I would recommend getting the original Wald version. These have a fine mesh bottom, whereas the Wald bottom is just like the sides. The problem is when you try to close it or open it, you can’t put your fingers through the bottom to lift or push down, and you end up with skinned fingers when you inevitably scrape them on the side when the bottom “gives”.

Not really an issue if you leave them open, but that defeats the purpose of collapsible baskets. I would not purchase again.

Joseph AndersonJoseph Anderson: I just installed two of these on my rear bike rack. They well made and exactly what I was looking for. They installed easily with the hardware that it came with. The basket easily holds a reusable grocery bag or small backpack (pictured) and they collapse and hook shut quite nicely. Even better they don't rattle when I ride which I thought they might.

There is one flaw others have mentioned. The clip to hook them shut is obstructed by the hook that holds the basket bottom in place when opened. It's easily fixed by moving the clip over with a pair of pliers, although it's bizarre that the maker of these never noticed this.

Chris Protopapas: I've used the Wald folding baskets for almost 40 years now, discarding them every ten years or so when they got so mangled they became useless. I thought I'd give these a try. First off, they seem very well made, feel more solid than the Wald. This is actually a bit of a problem. They are a bit over-designed. The tight mesh bottom panel looks very impressive, but it's impossible to get a hold of them to pull them up to fold them, because I can't hook my finger around a wire like I could with the Wald. Had to resort to rigging a little plastic loop in them. The mesh looks impressive, but it's really a solution in search of a problem. The catch that secures the basket when folded is very big, which again looks impressive until the time comes to use it, because it's almost the same width as the wire section it's designed to hook to, meaning you have to fiddle with it to line it up. Similarly, the wire frame on the outside is tighter than the Wald, which I'm sure makes it stronger, but it's difficult to flip the bottom of the basket down from the folded position because the hook catches on the wrong part of the wire frame before it goes all the way down, needing more...

mb: This is one of the few purchased objects in my life that gives me delight every time I use it. These baskets are perfect for me.

They fit a grocery bag perfectly. I haven't tried a paper bag, I mean the bags that are made of crinkly plastic but have sewn seams and wide handles. High-quality, reusable grocery bags. What I love about that is that it's like having panniers with comfortable shoulder straps. These things are very flexible in how you can use them - I can use a nice bag, I can throw in my purse or backpack, I can strap something large across the top.

When I first installed the baskets, they made my bike wobbly. So I installed a new rear rack that has a horizontal bar below the top of the wheel (it's also a very sturdy rack, and my bike mechanic said I was carrying too much weight on the old one). Voila, the wobbliness is gone. It's important to lower that center of gravity - it's the height that can cause wobble.

They clip closed just fine, no problems. I don't have to remember to put them on because they're always there, unlike removable panniers. I bought a little netted bungee to clip over any load. So, yeah, I am glad for them...
