J. Rose: I work at an elementary school, and I have afternoon recess duty. I use this whistle when it's time for the students to line up, and it's SUPER loud -- when kids who are nearby see me lift it to my lips, they quickly cover their ears. It never fails to bring in every student, no matter how far away they are (our school property is pretty huge). I have no doubt this would be an effective whistle for pretty much anything you would need it for.

I've had mine for over a year now, and it's held up beautifully with daily use. The cord it comes with is long and sturdy, and has survived being worn all day, five days a week, getting bumped around with the whistle and my ID badge attached. Sometimes it gets snagged on stuff, but is has never broken. Definitely great value for the money.

TRH: The whistle seems to be good quality, but the lanyard, the yellow beads and the metal clasps and hooks attached to this whistle are like something that came out of a 25 cents machine at the grocery store. The lanyard is like string (like a cheap shoe lace) and the metal pieces such as the key loop around the whistle seem lIke they would break off of the
whistle if I wore it around my neck. Upon looking at the pictures now, maybe I didnt pay close enough attention to the string in the photos as it does look similar. I thought the beads were going to be golden but they are mustard colored plastic beads. All of that said,if you are looking for a good quality loud whistle and have your own lanyard I would
recommend this. If you are looking for a good
whistle that comes with a nice lanyard, you can consider looking elsewhere. I saw some decent options on amazon for $10.
As an update, once I actually started using the whistle and wearing it on the lanyard around my neck, I realized I may have been too harsh in my initial statements and that in fact it was fine for my needs. For this reason I have changed my rating :)

Barbara K: I originally bought this whistle because of the increasing number of coyotes in my area. A park ranger said that they hated the sound of a whistle and that was the best way to stop them from following you when you walk your dogs. I have 2 small Havanese dogs and I wanted to make sure they were safe when I take them for walks. Now I can feel safe walking them again! I'm glad I haven't had to use it for coyotes and hope I never do!

As a bonus, this whistle works great when a dog is barking at them or approaching them in an unfriendly manner on our walks. It stops them in their tracks! Also, it works quite well when my own dogs start barking in our home! All they have to do is see me hold the whistle usually, but if that doesn't stop them, I blow the whistle and that does!

It is made of stainless steel and I find the lanyard to be quite sturdy enough for the size of the whistle. It may be small but it makes a mighty noise and is just the right size not to look conspicuous when I walk the dogs. The harder you blow on it, the more noise it makes, so I don't blow very hard to start with, and then harder if that doesn't get the desired effect. If...

Mickey D: It's funny that anyone could say this whistle isn't that loud but, I guess if you don't have the wind to blow it with authority that could be a problem. This little whistle came in the post the other day and I made the mistake of un-packaging it and trying it out in the house. It almost blew my eardrums out it was so loud.

Years ago I got a much better whistle for my aging mom. When I went to visit her she said that the whistle didn't work so, I picked it up and blew and almost took out both mom's and my ear drums. I realized the mom didn't have the lung capacity to blow the whistle which could be the case with those who find this lacking in sound.

This is a very small whistle and is not heavy duty but, for emergency use it is just fine. You can carry this in your pocket easily and have it ready if need be. For me, it's going in my emergency bag for the unlikely event that I may one day need it. If you need a whistle for game events or just getting somebodies attention this will work just fine and, if you're inside, you may want to take it easy just a bit!!!
