Ron R.: Only gave it a four star on durability because I just got it, haven't had time to beat it up in use.
As for giftable, very much so. Comes in a very decent gift box, (without labels and stickers), and packed nicely in that hard foam.
Headline expresses my thoughts on value. I knew it wasn't real leather before I purchased it, but the faux leather with the (flag design in my case), looks very nice. May be better than real leather, may not stain / discolor as fast.
Only setback I see, is no instructions for care and cleaning. On that note:
1) Fill it with clean / filtered tap water, check it for leaks. (mine had none)
2) Pour out about half, shake vigorously, repeat several times.
3) Boil clean / filtered water and fill the flask. Let stand until cooled. [caution, gets very hot]
4) Pour into clean glass, (or measuring cup), smell and taste for any odors or any discoloration.
5) Repeat as necessary, (mine was clean and clear).
Be careful about using chlorine, lemon juice, vinegar or even dish soap. This is stainless steel, those products will make the steel give off bad smells and really do not help, unless you need to clean it after...
