This was a good decision because my daughter never learned how to latch properly, so I ended up relying on pumping.
The pump is great, powerful, easy to operate. I’ll say it’s very tiring to use pumps so often, so if you’re a first time mum reading this review, I’ll recommend going for a hands-free pump option, which I did in the end and it made my life much easier.
However, it’s useful to have two pumps for two different purposes. This pump is still useful for when I want to increase my supply (it empties the breast more efficiently) and also when I want to treat clogged ducts, as it’s powerful enough to unclog it if you press on the hard spot while pumping (this only works if you pump one breast at a time, but it’s saved my life many times and greatly reduced pain!).

Ashton: I bought the spectra on recommendation as my Elvie does well but with my supply I need bigger collectors.
This pump empties me! Great suction ability to pump both breasts simultaneously is quicker. (If you have chance lol)
My only complaint is the flange size it comes with is 28mm which isn’ta very common size so you have to buy others elsewhere.
But it’s a great bit of Kit

Shalini S.Shalini S.: The media could not be loaded.

Nyk_n_Nick: I will apologize in advance for the long winded review - but a breast pump is an extremely important purchase for a breastfeeding mother - so I am going to try to cover all the bases on this pump.
As a mother now breastfeeding her 3rd child, I'm am approaching 4 years total of nursing.
In the past, I have always used Medela products. I've struggled on every end of the spectrum from low supply with one child to oversupply with another and a healthy spot on supply now with my 3rd. A good pump makes all the difference in maintaining milk supply - ESPECIALLY if you're a working mother.
I HAD been a loyal Medela PISA user for almost my entire 4 cumulative nursing years - but I am no longer. When I was pregnant with my 3rd I had just started hearing about the speCtra s2 taking the breastfeeding world by storm, but I figured I'd stick with old faithful and I asked my insurance to provide another Medela - hindsight is 20/20 and I wish I'd done more homework then. About 3 months after my daughter was born all I heard about was how amazing the s2 is - from nursing friends, mom groups, breastfeeding groups and even a couple La Leche meetings. When I looked into it the...

K. Barnett: [See below for my update, posted after Spectra released the S1 pump.]
I decided to try a Spectra pump after my second Medela Pump In Style Advanced crapped out on me, and I am so glad I did - the S2 pump is amazing - so much better than the PISA (and than the Hygeia EnJoye pump I briefly tried) in almost every way.
SUMMARY:
PROS: comfortable to use, sucking action more like a baby than any other pump I've used, quick/efficient, quiet, letdown mode, completely customizable pumping experience due to independent speed and suction controls, closed system if you use the included collection kit with its backflow filters, very good customer service through Mother's Milk, amazingly low price, lightweight, motor life of 1500 hours
CONS: collection kit not that great and some (surmountable) difficulties with using other collection kits, no option to run on batteries or car charger
OVERALL: All in all, even with my complaints about the collection kit, I love this pump and highly recommend it!
ALL THE DETAILS: (Warning: I'm including LOTS of details, since this product has just come out, and reviews are hard to find.)

Lee: I'll start with the things I like -
*Nightlight
*Cord length is decent
Things I hate -
*It came with a 28mm wide mouth pump, if you order to America, you will get the 28mm and the 24mm, but for some reason we only get the 28mm here in the UK which is way too big
*You don't get any flange inserts and the plastic pump hurts
*Its made of extremely cheap plastic that doesn't feel good against the skin
*After spending so much money on this pump, you will still need to shop elsewhere to get flange inserts which cost anything from £16 to £22 and you will also have to purchase the 24mm wide mouth pump parts for around £22 to £25 because there are no flange inserts for the standard 28mm shield that it comes with..
*If you use the 28mm shield on its own, it's going to damage your nipples, aerolas, skin badly as it sucks the nipple, aerola and skin inside with each pump, a piece of my skin came off!
If I'm spending £150 on a pump, I expect it to come with everything I need and work well, this pump is a joke! I now either have to spend another £50 for parts before I can use it, or go through the hassle of getting the newborn...
