Solar Panel-Powered Mini Ventilator Fan

NeandermanNeanderman: I stream my granddaughters’ softball games to Facebook and YouTube and find that in direct sun and the hot summer heat here in Florida, my iPhone cameras overheat and shut down. To solve this problem, I purchased this solar fan and a wire basket and assembled it as shown in the photos. The fan keeps the camera cool and the basket keeps it shaded from sun and also rain. I found that after about 18 months, the fan gradually stopped working, so I bought another fan and solar panel to replace it. I discovered that the problem was not with the fan, but with the solar panel, which I guess has a lifespan of no more than 18-24 months. Solar panels do have a lifespan, I read, and this one isn’t as long as one would like, nor expect. Still, for the 18 months this was working, it was well worth the price, I think. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the short lifespan.

Michael MMichael M: Very pleased with this item. The solar cell is built in a firm plastic (waterproof) layer. Note the fan is not waterproof and should be protected. My Coop is in full sun and often exceeds 110 degrees on hot sunny days. While the fan is not exceptionally strong it pulls enough air through to keep it within a few degrees of the outside air. The power output of the cell is very good, in the strong sun the fan goes full speed, but I was surprised by seeing operation of the fan (of course slower) in shaded conditions. Caryn K: I bought this to give a little air circulation to a greenhouse. It does not have a battery so it only runs when the sun is shining. I knew this when I bought it. On a sunny day the fan was spinning very fast and I put my hand in front of the fan about 2 feet away from the blades. I could not even feel any breeze. It does not have an on and off switch and has to be disconnected when you do not want it to run. On cloudy days there is not enough sunshine to run the fan at all. It does make a very high-pitched, very annoying sound to the ears on cloudy days when it will not run. It has to be disconnected to get rid of the sound. Do not waste your money.

chris: Was concerned based on other reviews of the products but then I remembered people expect way too much nowadays.
Product works just like it should, fans spin and move the air, not blow like some think.
Even on a mostly cloudy day with rain drops, these fans still spun on solar only. They are small but move a good amount of air. Added bonus is they come with battery cables and a 12V adapter to run fans without solar power. Ordering 4 more for my solar kiln to move hot air out.
Easy to use as well, just plug in and mount solar panel. For the price it's a great product.

mamabear: Read description carefully. This fan is "powered" by solar panel. It is not designed to store power from solar energy to stay on otherwise. It will only go on when direct sunlight hits the panel or while using other power cords included. It works well when on. A little whiney while running but not bad. Using for chicken coop and draws a good amount of air.

Magpie: Built decently well. I used it for my outdoor chicken coop to give some extra ventilation during the day. My back yards in partial shade for most of the day however other solar fans I have purchase still functions in less than optimal conditions. It's winter and many overcast days, looking forward to seeing it work in summer. But for the price, its functions well enough and appears to be made for outdoor use.

Jenn: I really like this product, I actually ended up purchasing a second one. I used it with my students for a STEM project, but I will be using it to charge my devices, power some cute lights, or even create some air movement by powering the little fan it came with.
