Melissa: Never thought I’d get excited enough about a garbage can to write a review, but here we are. When my old sensor operated trash can (that’s lid just barely cleared the underside of the countertop) purchased YEARS ago finally opened for the last time, I went in search of a new one only to realize that pretty much everything out there was too darn tall by an inch or so. I either needed to move our trash can location (no thank you), get a smaller trash can (definitely no), or find something that was under 34” when the lid was fully open. This was one of the few trash cans that fit the bill. BONUS: this is a combo trash/recycling bin, so I can get rid of our recycling can stinking up our pantry.

Our new trash can arrived well packaged with no dents or scratches. It’s absolutely the perfect size for our small kitchen and I LOVE it. I’m also very excited about never having to replace trash lid sensor batteries ever again.

FrancineFrancine: Simple Human came through with the perfect size for this very narrow space at the edge of a wet bar counter. It had to fit into that narrow space and the lid had to open without hitting the underside of the wet bar.

The pedal to open is effortless and the top opens like wings smoothly and perfectly.
The bin is perfect for a small space when separating bottles/can from paper goods and garbage is required.

They are not inexpensive, but it is definitely great quality.

Briggie: So, I literally just got this can, and unpacked it a few minutes ago. I'm elderly and disabled, but was able to get it into the kitchen by sliding it over the rug and floor and got it all set up and trash out in less than 15 minutes! It is VERY well packaged, and the trash can itself is so sturdy. I love the whisper quiet lid closing. You also get a trial package of bags as well. I didn't use bags for the recycling because it's mostly paper and cardboard for us, and I rinse everything else. I'm just over the moon with this. Granted, it's a high price point, but now I don't have to look at recycling anymore. Prior to this I had a plain Rubbermaid trash can for trash, and used paper bags or cardboard boxes to hold the recycling - NO MORE.

Amazon Customer: It's not very clear on the amazon shop, but note the 40 L has a garbage & recycling container which is super handy if you don't have space for both. Simple human is $$$ but I'll admit it looks great :)

Paul Graham: Simple human bins are extremely well made and fit in well with a high spec kitchen. The pedal is fantastic for hands-free operation and the butterfly opening late means a reduced height whilst retaining a wide aperture to access the bins inside. With two separate bin compartment inside these could be used for recycling, but in a large family we find it helpful to be able to empty one side at a time, making rubbish disposal that much easier. Use the simple human custom bin liners for a perfect fit.

Nanners: As with most simplehuman products, this garbage can is well made. I've owned this particular one for five years now, and it's showing no signs of quitting--the pedal still works, the lid opens as it should...and that's saying something, given that mechanical breakdown is one of the chief complaints of a lot of garbage cans out there, and the stainless ones are so expensive that breakage like that in a short window of time is unacceptable. Another thing that's great about this is the slim design. I chose it specifically for that reason. I keep mine on the side of my kitchen island, in a kitchen that doesn't otherwise have tons of clearance room for walking, so I didn't want to take it up with garbage can square-footage. The pedal in the front is great, and the butterfly doors are really nice if you use it like I do, alongside an island where you do all your work. The lids can be propped open by moving the lever found just inside the lid, and scraps created while prepping for dinner can be pushed off the edge of the counter and directly into the open can. The lid doors are very low profile, and do not protrude past the height of the counter, so they are not in the way of any...
