Amazon Customer: It’s expensive but lighter and longer than similar saws I’ve had. My first one had the blade break in the first month cutting a small bush. Might have been my technique combined with the light thinness of the steel.

It’s great light expensive but not long lasting compared to my similar smaller cheaper more durable saws. That’s the trade off.

I use hand saws a lot fir hiking trail maintenance in the bushy Pacific Northwest.

AP: The saw works well! We have used the saw for cutting tree limbs at home and also while doing some trail work with a volunteer group. It's worth it to buy a sheath because there are some sharp edges that you can cut yourself with while retrieving from a backpack. It's large so you will need to have some clearance to use the saw, but it makes quick work of sawing a small tree or some stubs.

tobster: The most amazing saw I own and pretty much everyone that has borrowed it has bought one. Only a couple of things that are a must to know, it only cuts on the pull stroke and if you try to cut pushing you will bend or break the blade, keep a thin coat of gun oil on it and never let it touch you when you are cutting. This thing will draw blood faster than an Army nurse as I and many of my friends have found out.

MJMMJM: I’m fortunate in that I’m in the process of clearing some single track MTB trails in the woods on our farm. I have a pretty good assortment of tools for the purpose, which I carry to the trailhead in a four wheeler. It’s a long term project, mostly starting with existing game trails and even logging roads and turning them into trails for walking and riding our mountain bikes. I’ve been working on it intermittently for a couple of years.

However, for those times when I’m clearing or maintaining trail farther from the trail head, I wanted something lightweight enough to easily carry and that would still be effective. The Big Boy, combined with a set of ARS pruning shears (also reviewed) which I carry in my pocket, gives me the means to perform most clearing duties easily. Instead of completely clearing a trail as I go, I first find a natural line and make at least several passes along it to make sure the line is where I want it, and prune and saw a bit more with each pass.
