Kooper Knebel: Imagine my surprise when I took the glove out of the box and found it to be a "Shoeless Jane"! That wasn't in the description. But I'm female, so that's not a deal breaker. I'm also 65 years old, so I'm clearly not planning on playing competitively. I bought the glove to play catch with the grand kids. The glove is quite large and very stiff out of the box. A baseball looks like a golf ball in this glove. So I plan to break it in with a 12" softball. It's very well made and the leather smells fantastic! The color of the leather is much lighter than the photo. But it looks like a new glove should look, at least the gloves I remember from my youth. I think this would make an excellent glove for competitive 12" softball, or outfield in baseball.

@chad_a: I discovered Shoeless Joe gloves when I picked up a used 1st base mitt at a resale shop. I was taken by the softness of the leather. Really unlike anything I had seen in a cowhide mitt. I wondered what a new Shoeless Glove would be like, so I bought this 13-inch modified trap. Of course, it was a bit stiffer out of the box than the used glove. But the leather was still soft. The smell was oh so perfect. A week later I was using the glove on the field. Here's what I did to get it ready that fast: I bent up the fingers. I pounded on the heel with a rubber mallet to get the right folds. I rubbed the whole glove with a rag doused in very hot water. I rolled the glove up with a ball in the pocket overnight. I took it apart and ran it in the clothes dryer on hot for 5 minutes. I rubbed it down in lanolin. I played catch with it. That's it. I could easily grip it to snag a ball even backhanded. It was wondrous. Basically a year of work on another glove only took a week with this one. I'll be a fan of Shoeless Joe Gloves for life.
