Look585: So I previously had the benchmark for live sound, Shure SM 58. It was destroyed by some ham fisted movers a few years ago. I mostly was doing the karaoke thing in my home studio and didn't realize I bought an SM 48 as a replacement. I recently joined a band again and they were commenting that they could not hear me through the mix. I realized the mic was not a 58. I researched and was going to buy another 58 but the reviews were a little better on this one and I also got $20 off for a Warehouse Deal (used, but likely just a return). Anyway, this is a fantastic mic and a lot more clear than the 48. Is it better than the 58? Can't say, but I like it and am glad I purchased it.

Matthew R. Lilly: I got this for my girlfriend who is a solo singer/guitarist. She had to turn the gain down on everything she owned because the power of this microphone made every thing clip leaving settings the same from her Shure SM58. The amount of "out of cone" noise cancellation is extremely impressive. I was recording my girlfriend with a cheapish studio Condenser microphone (MXL V67G), but I have since started recording her with this instead. The sound is very transparent, as it doesn't seem to emphasize the mid or upper tones like a lot of live microphones seem to do. I was thinking about a preamp as a gift, but don't think I need to as of now. She uses the switch, so it was a worthwhile $20 upgrade. I've not heard a pop from the switch, so it is a very nice quality feature. It's large and has a fair amount of resistance, so I don't think it would accidentally toggle. My girlfriend uses the microphone on a tripod, so this wouldn't be a decent measure of how easily it would accidentally "turn off". I highly recommend this for a single singer, but not a shared microphone; the out of cone noise cancellation is uncanny.

H B: Trust me, I'm not a company salesman, or connected at all to the seller nor Sennheiser.
However, I think Sennheiser mics are one of the best mics for singing pop music.
They have this bright, crispy sound that you can't get on a SM58 without eq-ing.
They cut through the song like diamond dust and glitter (yeah, how do you express sound into image?)
I researched about mics, and a friend of mine had Shure SM58's which are still used as backing vocal mics.
Those mics give a good mid range, but aren't good for cutting in a song where a lot of piano or electric guitar is used.
The Sennheiser E-series cut through like butter. Enough bottom end, not overly mid-range-ey, and a tad of brightness. No sharpness to the sound.
It's the mic, how I always have imagined a good mic to sound.
Works excellent with older sound systems. The problem with older sound systems is, that they usually use Shure SM58's, that are by nature more mid range-ey, and the speakers often lack bass, or treble.
The Sennheiser does well in straightening that curve somewhat, to not let the voices sound too mid ranged, with having only ample brightness, or low end.
For me it was...

G. L.: OMG!!! I have been singing on and off stage for over 15 years. I have been using many other people's equipment cause I never found that I needed to buy a microphone (never really sang INTO(ATE) the microphone, so I never worried about health concerns). Anyway, recently being in a cover band, I needed my own microphone. I purchased one not too long ago from a reputable brand and the microphone is good, just not for my vocals (Male Tenor I). I then searched high and low and remembered using a Senny e935 a while back that worked well but not well enough. I went on line and checked out one video of a guy using the e845 to record vocals and I was absolutely stunned. The crispness and clarity that comes from this microphone is unbelievable, I actually think it sounds better than the e935 (that is just my two cents). To end this review, I used this microphone last night in a practice environment where I had to strain my vocals with the previous microphone (unable to push the gain on that one). This microphone had me doubting, at first, if the rest of the band was playing loud enough. My vocals cut through the instruments without even the slightest strain. All the members were able to...

Jaykayess: For the last 20 years, I’ve been using Shure SM58 mics for live recording of 2 male vocalists with similar pitch. But there was an imbalance in their recorded voice quality, because singer #1 prefers to be very close to the mic (almost touching) whereas singer #2 moves around a lot, ranging from a half-inch to about 3-4 inches away from the mic. I just couldn’t figure out a solution for this.
I stumbled upon this mic and after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try, thinking it may solve the problem for singer #2 since it’s a supercardioid mic.
It worked perfectly and the problem is now solved! I realised that the SM58 has a slightly more pronounced bass proximity effect, which was creating the problem because of the varying distance of singer #2.
In fact, I’d say that the voice quality of the Sennheiser e845 is slightly (but noticeably) better than that of the SM58. The Sennheiser e845 has extremely transparent, clear, un-coloured, natural sound, and it works very well even when the distance from the singer to the mic varies within a range of 0-4 inches. The build quality appears to be as rugged as the legendary Shure SM58.
I would...
