Christine TownesChristine Townes: I love this bookcase. It is large and sturdy, very heavy. I have not anchored it yet or put all my books on it yet, but is makes the whole room much warmer and it looks more expensive than it was.
Had a bit of trouble when I put it together, the front trim on the upper left side did not fit well and I had to pull the bottom and top of the bookcase to fit the trim in. It was snug and it still looked great. The other issue I had was that one of the pieces was broken but the company is sending a replacement and has even sent tracking, all free.
I love this piece. I may get another and replace my husband's night stand, but I dont know what we would do about the lamps, ha!
Jokes aside, this is a very solid piece, and an awesome buy. Would get it again. Super easy to put together and the company stands by its product.
The shelves hold 20 lbs each except for the middle one that holds more and I believe the bottom one as well. Like I said Solid piece

Sue Q: I love this piece. This was my first time building a piece of flat pack furniture. The engineering that must have gone into this is astounding. Getting a 3 dimensional piece of furniture into a narrow flat box that transforms into a sturdy good looking piece with clever and sturdy cam joints is just amazing.

Getting things all lined up was a bit of a challenge; but, it came out beautiful. Figuring out how to manage some of the angles was challenging at times; but, well worth the effort. Once I got the sides and fixed shelves in place I thought I was nearly done. Yeah, was I ever wrong. The molding and decorative pieces were much more work and more challenging than the main structure.

Update: April, 2016 I liked this piece so much I ordered the library piece with the cabinet and drawer. It arrived with the two long side pieces cracked in half. I called amazon because the description says it's eligible for replacement parts and to call amazon customer service for more information. The woman I spoke with was very nice, but never heard of such a thing. She eventually got back to me and said I had to contact the manufacturer. If I'm supposed to contact...

Garnet Velvet: The item was just as I had expected - worth the $$ spent on it (especially how very plain book shelves sell for the same price!)
Was shipped from US - arrived early w no extra fees (border & customs) needing to be paid (always a fear of mine when product are coming from outside of Canada).
The instructions were clear & the unit easy to assemble (easier w someone to help).

Kindle Customer: I bought this to coordinate with a French writing desk I inherited. I'm very happy with the bookcase. To gauge my skills, I'm fairly handy but not a pro. All told, it probably took me, without assistance, 3 hours over a day or two to complete assembly, including the extra steps I took, described below. I used a variable speed drill with phillips attachment for most of the project (but kept my drill speed on the low side), and sometimes a manual #2 phillips. My advice: take your time and read the instructions through beforehand so you know what to expect. Take breaks if (when) frustrated. You can do this!
The long side facings on my unit were broken when I unpacked the box. I suggest going through the hardware bag to ensure you have all the hardware you need before contacting Sauder. The instruction booklet tells you how many pieces of each type of hardware you should have. I was missing a few pieces of hardware and was able to have those shipped with the new side facings.
While assembling, I found it difficult to get underneath the unit to attach the screws to the side facings while keeping the facings in place. You are really working "upside...

Simmons: Ok, I must admit that I was apprehensive about ordering this unit without seeing it first as these types of things can vary drastically between what you expect and what you really get once it arrives. Well, I'm here to tell you that this is one of my best purchases from Amazon and thats saying a lot as I order stuff all the time. This thing really is great quality and relatively easy to put together. The instructions could use a little overhaul but other than that I really have nothing bad to say about the finished product. We truly LOVE this item and it looks great in our house. I have referred this to other people and they were all amazed that it came in the mail as a kit. I am not a handy-man by any stretch and it took me just about an hour to assemble from start to finish.

Now I must be honest, when the unit arrived there were two pieces in the box that were damaged. I was truly concerned as I really wanted to get this put together and in place for the Holidays. I contacted the company and they got me replacement pieces VERY quickly and were very nice to work with. They apologized appropriately and got my replacement parts in the mail that day. ...
