Blue Door SanctuaryAmazon Customer: This lovely rice is fragrant and cooks up beautifully. I order a new bag as soon as I am running low. Beats running to the store when little bags run out. I often cook it seasoned (with broth or herbs) but sometimes just plain with a bit of salt and butter, then make rice pudding with leftovers next day. Good Earth!

Fusion: I love rice and tried just about every rice over many years. This rice is perhaps one the best if you like firm "al dente" flavorful rice, this is a good choice. I now use a steam pressure cooker for speed but you will get the same results just boiling in a pot and following these instructions.

Here is how; the ratio is (2)two cups of water to (1)one cup of rice. You choose the quantity but I recommend starting with no more than two cups of dry rice.
1. Wash your rice and drain it.
2. In a pot put your water with a little salt and a little extra virgin olive oil.
3. Bring the water to a boil.
4. Turn the stove burner to the lowest or one of the lowest positions.
5. Put your rice in. Cover the pot. DO NOT STIR.
6. Allow it to cook slowly until all the water is absorbed.
7. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
8 Put the rice in a big bowl. I like glass because it's inert. I do not like plastic bowls.
9. Add to the rice according to your taste: 1) cut up cilantro finely chopped, 2) Salt, 3) Pepper, and 4) Extra virgin olive oil.
10. Mix thoroughly.

ENJOY!

Lance Owens: I am a rice eater, and a rice connoisseur. This is my favorite rice -- or at least, my favorite that is easily available. I was surprised to find today that a 20lb bag of this rice is now selling about twenty percent cheaper on Amazon than it is at my big local oriental food market (fifteen bucks today for the big 20# bag, but this certainly will change). Most oriental food products are much cheaper at the store than they are through Amazon.. Don't hesitate to by a big bag -- this rice ages well. You can store 20 pounds for a a year or two in a cool, dry place, without any degradation in quality. Basmati rice is usually aged.

Basmati rice is not "sticky" like Jasmine and many other varieties, particularly short-grain rices. There are several traditional ways to cook this rice. Some involve soaking and washing. But the easy (and perfectly fine) way to cook it is to just add 2 cups rice to 4 cups water. Add some salt if desired. Bring gently to a boil uncovered, then cover the pot, and immediately turn down the heat to low, and simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes; give it a stir a couple times to keep it from sticking to the pan bottom. Just do a taste test to see when it...

Kindle Customer: Best fluffy non sticky rice. If you want sticky japanese style rice or breakfast rice, or pudding rice, use regular store bought american or chinese strain of rice. If you want fluffy loose rice, this is the one. Use the instructions and if it is too soft, cut your water back next time. If it is too dry, add a quarter cup water and let it steam some more. Fluff it with a fork when it starts to steam to keep it loose, Add a bit of olive oil when cooking and don't forget the salt. India strain of rice is less fattening than the starchy sticky chinese and american strain. This type of rice is for putting your meat/vegetable toppings on or making casseroles and not coming out super soggy. No cooked rice freezes well, it breaks down. Freeze your toppings, make fresh rice every time when you thaw and heat your toppings. Very convenient. Use a rice steamer. A cheap brand is just fine. Always wipe dry the bottom of your rice pot before putting into the electric steamer or you'll short it out. I've done that. If you boil rice in a pot then strain it before steaming, add a little oil to the bottom of the pot. Lay in a tortilla or layer of crackers, put the rice back in, put the lid on or a...

A Mom with Kids and Fur Kids: Royal produces some very nice Basmati rice. It's tasty and has a good texture. You should wash it though before cooking.

You should also note that what you receive is different than what in the product photo. What I received was a burlap bag that was fully labelled with the Royal logo etc. The top of the bag had a zipper and there was a long handle which really makes it easier to tote the rice around. Inside the bag is a sealed plastic bag. (If you ever receive a non-sealed product from Amazon, call them or email them right away. They will take care of you.)

SUMMARY
Since we got a Zojirushi rice cooker we've been eating a lot more rice which in turn means that I've been purchasing larger and larger sacks of rice.

I've been purchasing Royal rice for about 3 years and their Basmati rice is our staple. I purchased it here on Amazon so I could have it delivered as a gift. The price currently listed is ridiculous so shop local and save BIG.
