Steve Olsen: We moved into a new home and needed some way to monitor the front porch area and the driveway. After a lot of research we chose the Ring 4, mainly for the camera roll feature which lets you see the 4 seconds prior to the notification that someone is at your door.
Installation: Pretty easy but if you are mounting to siding, use something else besides the included screws. The screw heads are too small to firmly hold it to siding.
Pairing with WiFi: Super easy with the App and flawless connectivity. About as simple as it can be made in terms of pairing.
Picture: Generally good. The camera roll feature is far less clear than it’s normal recording.
Sound: Surprisingly good. The microphone is very good and I can hear everything when turned on. The two way communication works well.
Battery life: Good. If you adjust the settings to avoid live updates every few minutes the battery life stretches out a lot. Battery costs are reasonable if you want a spare but they all take 6-10 hours to charge fully.
Do you need Chime? Heck no. The hook up to phones is simple and many people in the house can be easily connected to the Ring 4, so why bother. People are inseparable from...

Amazon Customer: Once setup it provides excellent service. This is the second ring doorbell that I have had to install. The first doorbell worked equally well before I changed internet providers. The first bell was looking for the original internet provider and I couldn’t encourage it to tune into the the new provider. I searched extensively on YouTube but I couldn’t find an answer to my problem. I bit the bullet and bought my current Ring doorbell. Straight out of the box the doorbell found the new network and was working effectively within 15 minutes.

Bryan412Bryan412: I have went back & forth on whether or not I really needed to dish out the money for this Ring Doorbell 4, I would look up reviews and do research then I would just be like eh it’s fine I don’t need it that bad especially being on a tighter budget. Well income tax time hit and I seen this one was $60 off the original price & so I went for it & OMG I’m sooooo glad I did! It’s Amazing, I absolutely Love being able to see who is at my front door or even close to my porch I didn’t screw mount mine because I live in Townhouse Apartments and I’m sure that is a no no lol so I got a no screw door mount for it and it’s perfect for apartment living, the camera quality is really nice, it’s very fast at alerting me if someone is on or near my porch or door, it look very sleek and appealing, it came with a Ring Sticker so I got a magnet and stuck the sticker to the magnet and since my door is metal it just sticks magnetically I can remove it when I need so it’s not permanent so that’s an idea for you, but overall if your going back and forth like I was just get it and I promise you won’t be disappointed it’s awesome!! J D: I needed to buy a plate from ring so I could use the old holes I had drilled but otherwise this was an easy replacement for my old ring camera. The 4 still has a lag but teaming it with Alexa to make announcements makes it easier to hear and get to the gate promptly. Alexa show also flashes up the camera view.
It holds up great in the weather and its easy to swap batteries out (I recommend get a spare battery). The annual charge for a single camera subscription is not onerous and worth it. There are a wide range of features some you will find useful for your situation - all easy to navigate and adjust as needed.
These cameras are super easy to install. I have a floodlight camera I still haven't put up because of mounting difficulties but the doorbell cameras are great. The old ones came with masonry drill bit but I don't think these do, so if you are planning to put it on brick make sure you pick up one, otherwise they give you everything you need in the pack.

Doug T: I found the Ring very fiddly to install and not get misaligned. There is no cardboard template provided (should be easy enough to print onto the packaging) and yet it is extremely difficult to get a decent marking pen down through the long and restricted mounting holes of the doorbell. Because the doorbell housing is a plastic and the mounting holes very near to the edge of the housing, it is too risky to try and drill marking holes using the doorbell itself.
Very happy with the performance of the doorbell, chimes and the app. Recordings are very clear. One thing that became evident after it was all mounted was that as it faced east, the sun shines onto the camera lens for a period of time in the morning and that causes sun flare in the camera which is annoying. The only solution I can see is to mount it in another area with no sun but that is less than ideal and often not possible. But think about that before you drill holes in your wall!
It's nIce that this model 4 has the ability to connect to 5GHz wifi. Why then would you supply a chime model in the same kit that only has 2.4 GHz capability?
Overall though, pretty happy to recommend.

Dave: This doorbell works well, and has good hardware design, but could have been easier to set up in terms of connecting to my wi-fi network, and the recommended upload speed (on the product's internet site) was not strong enough to provide a reliable connection (but changes to my home wi-fi mean I have more than triple the recommended upload speed at the doorbell location now, and it works well). While I got a Chime Pro to assist with the connection, it didn't provide any better connection strength (despite being in a better and somewhat closer location) than my modem/router, although that will vary based on the strength of signal coming from your modem/router.
The phone app is good, the battery life also good (about 2 weeks, with a fair bit of motion detection and recording), the process of replacing the battery straightforward, and the information available via the app and the recordings of the videos via the Protect Plan excellent. The design and physical installation were both good, and the range of faceplates met our needs in terms of blending in with the complex.
