Repair Neoprene and Wetsuits Easily with GEAR AID Aquaseal NEO Contact Cement

Richard Wagoner: This could be a taken complaint OR a complement - this stuff really sticks. But because it sticks so well, it's actually a bit hard to use. As soon as to gets near the wetsuit, it seems to get ON the wetsuit ... like magnet to steel ... moth to flame.

But it works and works great. The only issue the above problem creates is a repair that isn't necessarily "nice." but it does stay repaired and sealed, and in the end, that's what I wanted. Dries fast. Great for keeping wetsuits going longer.

PG555: This product was easy to apply and when dry provided a great waterproof seal on the neoprene socks that are on my breathable waders. It provided great flexibility as well.

marie: I used this to repair some of the inevitable cuts on the inside of my 5mm open faced interior free diving wetsuit and boots. Suit has fabric facing on the outside only and the bare neoprene interior is extremely vulnerable to nicks (mostly fingernails), especially when stretched out during donning/doffing.
In the past I had used a 'shoe goo' type product with success, but the formula changed and the last tube of shoe goo that I used left peeling scabs around the repairs that also turned from clear to brown with age (yuk!). Also, that shoe goo wasn't very flexible when dry.
This gear aid brand cement makes great quality repairs easy. Follow the manufacturers instructions and apply a base coat (5min cure) followed by a top coat (10 min cure). Holding the defects open for curing and laying down a consistent layer are the only challenges.
The small tube goes a long way because you should be laying down thin layers.
Even an amateur like me managed to make some almost invisible repairs to the largest rips.
Again, please note that I did not use this to repair any fabric covered surfaces.
If any of these repairs fail, I'll post an update.

Sarah Mora: This product worked really well to repair a couple of tears in a wet-suit. The only reason that I hold back on the 5th start is the packaging. The product is VERY liquid in the tube, and so it runs out of the tube quickly... and all over the place if you are not prepared... any doesn't come off... there might be a better way to package such a liquid product than a foil tube with no valve. Otherwise, consider this your head's up, if you are not ready, you WILL have a mess on your hands.

Aaron Hansen: The super strong bond is flexible and water-resistant. I had written off my 5/3 super stretch Prolimit wetsuit that had extensive rips all around the arms, knees and lower back (from my kiteboarding harness). The total length of rips was in the range of 2 meters (6ft). My suit is glued together now and maybe stronger than new although looking a bit like Frankenstein. I did pre-stitch all the rips to make it easier to hold after applying the cement.

Caution the vapours are potent and dangerous. I made the mistake of being hunched over the rip as I applied the cement to hot neoprene (in the sun) and got a strong dose of vapour in my eyes and lungs... my eyes hurt for two days and i just hope I don't get the "reproductive harm" and other side-effects mentioned on the label.

Read the labels carefully and apply as recommended.
