Quirky Opinions: This novel is set in 1999. There are three main characters (no love triangle, don’t worry). All three work at the same office. We have Beth and Jennifer, two friends who often use their office e-mail to message each other back and forth, something all employees have been told not to do. Then we have Lincoln, the IT guy whose job it is to inspect all the e-mails to make sure rules are being followed.
At first, Lincoln reads the work emails as a fun distraction from his boring job. But slowly, he starts to fall for one of the girls. Now all he has to do is go introduce himself …as the guy who’s been reading her e-mails.
Interesting premise, right? And a really fun book too. That’s why it was hard to rate. I had problems with it, but I also really like it. There were many good things. The writing, as expected from Rainbow Rowell, was great, with the right amount of emotion and humour. The format of the book was great too. I was so upset when the e-mails finally stopped.
I liked all the characters and getting to know them. Lincoln, for example; even though I knew what he was doing was wrong, I couldn’t not like him. He was such a cute, likable and...

Amber Hodges: Lincoln is a guy who has had a rough time in the world of love. So he takes a job to help with internet security. This job happens to be at night, oh, and did I mention, he has to read the emails of those in the office that come back flagged. He is supposed to give them warnings, but...there is 2 girls that he just can't seem to warn. As he continues to read their emails, he finds out, he might be falling for someone that he has never even met....
This is such a cute story. I flew through it. As I am sick at home with strep throat, I had to do something to pass my time. I have been devouring books. I have always wanted to read something by Rainbow Rowell. I have heard so much about her that I just had to. I own both Attachments as well as Eleanor and Park. As Eleanor and Park sounds really cute, I had more of a pull towards Attachments. I decided that it would be my first book by her to read. I devoured the whole book in only a day. I had to keep reading.
This book goes between following Lincoln's life as well as following the lives of Jennifer and Beth through their emails. You don't follow the girls life outside of the emails that are put into the story. You still...

Barmy_Bex: I have really come to be a fan of Rainbow Rowell and have now read all of her books, this was the last one I managed to find, which is ironic as it's actually her first novel.
Lincoln's life is far from perfect, the only girl he ever loved left him in college/uni, he lives at home with his mum and spends his nights sitting in an office reading other people's emails. It's not exactly hard work or challenging. Finding ways to pass the time is about as hard as it gets.
Then he finds an email conversation between Jennifer and Beth, it's been flagged up as they are discussing things that aren't to do with work, but for some reason Lincoln doesn't report them, instead he ends up reading their conversations and even looking forward to the next time he will see one. But by the time he realises that he is falling in love with Beth it's too late - he can't confess he has broken her privacy and trust before he even met her. It would make him look like a total creep.
I wasn't sure about this book to start, it seemed a bit slow and i wasn't sure where it was going, Lincoln seemed rather pathetic and whiny which irritated me a bit. I can't stand people that moan about their...

Dayna Harding-hubbard: *sighs happily* I could just go right back to the beginning and read this all over again. If books were types of hugs, this would be a great big cuddly, cozy, bear hug! I truly loved it. I felt the ending was a little rushed but it didn't make me love it any less. It's funny and romantic and oh so nostalgic. It was set around the turn of the 21st century, I would have been 16 then, so it really took me back to those days. It had me on edge not knowing whether Lincoln, the IT security guy who has to read all the emails that have been flagged, and Beth, the movie reviews reporter, would ever end up together; Whether he would ever come clean or even *how* he would come clean. - How on earth was he going to tell Beth he'd fallen in love with her from reading her's and Jennifer's emails to one another? Admittedly, it does sound shifty but, come on, it's kinda romantic! I loved Rainbow's writing style for Beth and Jennifer and the fact their conversations were set out just like emails. Their characters were such a hoot. It felt like they were your best friends, too. They were funny and chatty and when they were going through bad times you wanted to be there for them and help them...

SweetPotato: Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
Edition reviewed: First Plume Printing 2012 (paperback)
Spoiler-free review.
Why I picked it up:
This was the first Rainbow Rowell novel that I read. I owned Eleanor and Park probably months before I bought Attachments, but I steadfastly refused to read it because of my super high expectations for it. So, during my Eleanor and Park hiatus, I was surfing Amazon for other books by Rainbow Rowell, and decided that Attachments sounded interesting, and I’d be able to read it without feeling bad if I disliked it.
The title was also an attention grabber for me, because of the dual meaning of “attachments,” and I thought the heart-shaped paperclip on the spine of the book was a cute touch. Since I was in the mood for a quicker, sweet read, Attachments sounded like it fit the bill.
The Writing:
Rather than describing the general summary of the novel, I’m going to assume that most of you have read the provided description, which I feel does a good job of summing up the basic plot line.
Going into this, I really wasn’t looking for anything with too much depth or originality. I had stacks of books (I still do, actually)...

Sarah: I think I may have a new favourite author to add to my list! I absolutely adored Eleanor and Park, to the point where I talked to anyone and everyone about it, and I'm a quiet person generally. I wasn't too sure when I started Attachments. It sounded like chic fic, like a cheesy rom com. In a way that is exactly what it was, unashamedly. But it was also brilliant!
There was something very realistic about the whole thing. These were people you could imagine knowing, or being. They weren't clichés, walking tragedies, or virginal beauties. It was lovely to see the bond of friendship between Beth and Jennifer. (I adored Jennifer!) And I adored Lincoln and his relationship with his Mom, and the way he was such a geek but was also self possessed and real and caring.
The whole thing was so touching, I'm truly going to miss these characters. It was so real I almost felt like as uncomfortable as Lincoln peering into their lives from the outside. The only thing I would say against this book was that I felt Beth's character struggled to stand out from Jennifer's. I needed to know and like Beth a little more I think. Jennifer just made me laugh so much, and want to hug her,...
