fatdaddyfromcincinnati: We love making mustard and I use this in pickling and add it to my cooking for the piquancy. However I believe that this Black Mustard Seed is in fact not Brassica nigrum but actually B. juncea. I base this on the comparison with known B. juncea and the published fact that B. nigrum has very very small seeds. I specifically purchased this item to try B. nigrum which is incredibly hard to find. I have plenty of access to the brown and white/yellow mustard seed and was looking for a true black seed to experiment with.
I'm not disappointed with this product, but am in the market for "real" black mustard Brassica nigrum.
If anyone who reads this can direct me to true black mustard, I would be grateful.
