Robert A. Craigie: Have tried many things to stop our cat peeing on the sofa, ranging from deterrent spays to motion activated water sprayers, and none has worked well. This behavior has completely stopped since we got the Scraminal. The first night he activated the alarm twice, the next night once, and since then he never attempts to go on the sofa. The alarm is load and scares him off immediately. It goes off and resets itself after 10 second. It is directional and required two for a large L-shaped sofa to cover both directions.

Jan Maree: Ok … my cat had an unbreakable habit of going poop in our dining room. He uses his potty box for urinating but poop, dining room only. I have tried EVERYTHING! I purchased this appliance … mind you, he always watches my every move when he is awake! Well, l unwrapped this thing, set it up according to the instructions … tested it and my cat saw me test it and heard it which really scared him. I put it in the dining room … and my cat hasn’t been in the dining room since. He can see it sitting there! Is that enough? He is using his potty box!!! It’s been about one week and it hasn’t gone off one time other than during the first day test. Therefore, l am not sure if it’s good or bad. My cat is pretty smart including meowing at certain times in unison with my grandfather clock! Could it be that he doesn’t want to enter the dining room because he can see it sitting there? I will keep you guys posted. UPDATE … I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT IT IS NOT WORKING … HE HAS GONE POTTY IN THE DINING ROOM NUMEROUS TIMES. I HAVE NEVER HEARD IT GO OFF. APPARENTLY, IT WAS COINCIDENTAL THAT HE WENT ONE TIME IN HIS POTTY BOX. I WILL GIVE IT A FEW MORE DAYS BUT I THINK UNFORTUNATELY THAT...

Al com: Our cat wasn’t frightened or scared of this . When it started it’s alarm (light flashing and noise) our cat thought it was a toy . He was attracted to it and played with it . Either it doesn’t work for that or my cat is broken .

JCB: I bought this to keep my cats out of the living room as they have destroyed the furniture and I want to replace it.
I have a large arched opening from dining to living room. The product is VERY directional and the beam needs to crossed to work. I placed the Scraminal in the LM just inside the opening on the left and pointed it directly across to the other side. This way, as the cats cross into the room it goes off. Sometimes they continue to run in but as the alarm sounds long enough they run back out. After two weeks they basically avoid the living room altogether. Perfect! The BUT here is, I also have a separate door to the living room which is to the left of the arched opening that I can open and enter the room with no alarm going off because I am behind the device. This allows me to use the room, get to my front door, pickup the device from behind without it going off etc. If the arched opening was my only entry I would also not be able to use the room, not just the cats. I initially tried putting it by the couch , but if they walked to the back or other side, they just scratched there or somewhere else in the room. The alarm is nice and loud in fact I only need the low...

SeanW: I can't give this thing a high enough rating.

We have a puppy, and some time shortly after we got her she concluded that the reason our living room has corners is so that you have somewhere you can poop when you can't find Mommy or Daddy and get them to let you outside. Or when you don't want to find Mommy or Daddy. Or when it's Tuesday.

And we tried everything, I swear. My wife and I both have some experience training dogs, and we did a lot of the usual stuff, both positive and negative reinforcement, but we just couldn't shake her of her living-room-is-for-pooping habit. She's a well-trained dog, actually, and today she's an AKC-Certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC), but back over the summer we just couldn't shake her of her bad habit.

Finally, in a fit of frustration after having spent hundreds of dollars on cleaners, I bought a few different beepers on Amazon all at the same time. I tried each one for a few days. And this is the one that worked -- and it worked on the very first day.

For the record, this didn't do much to deter our cats (one cat just flat-out ignored it, and the other concluded that she had to run very fast past it to avoid it...
