Tony: I'm using this in a 2010 BMW 135i, which has a ZF 6HP21 6 speed automatic transmission. You will find that Pentosin ATF-1 is a direct replacement for ZF Lifeguard 5 fluid, but not listed by ZF as a substitute for lifeguard 6, which is what my transmission came with from the factory. However, that does not necessarily mean this will not work with the transmission, and my research indicates many of the 5-series owners who's cars came with a similar transmission are using this fluid with no issues. I also found that Propulsive Dynamics, one of the companies rebuilding these transmissions to withstand higher torque recommends this fluid in their transmissions.
If you do a drain/refill and perhaps swap the pan on one of the transmission, make sure you reset the transmission adaptations and follow the procedure for the transmission to re-learn shifts.

chuck J.: I did my 01m transmission filter and fluid change on the 2001 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 with 110,000 miles back in October 2015 (I had just bought the car for my son), and the shifting improvement was immediate. I had to perform a drivers side control arm rear bushing replacement this week, and it required the transmission pan to be dropped to get out the front control arm bolt. I'm glad I did this job, because it allowed me to add more FRESH fluid and a new filter into the 01m transmission. I added what I removed (after filter change and reinstalling both drain plugs) with the Pentosin and cranked the car and brought the transmission to temperature while monitoring it with the VAGCOM dongle from RossTech. At temperature, I removed the outer drain plug, and I added about a half a quart more, until the drain fill started gurgling fluid out the drain hole, and not a constant stream. I immediately put back in the drain plug and tightened it. I did not wait for it to quit draining, as per some good advice on the TDI forums, as the fluid level is actually too low if you do. I must say, the transmission is shifting even better. It's even smoother than before. I'm VERY pleased with this...

E Baty: I used another ATF Fluid, may I say costly and recommended by a YouTube correspondent. Lots of money spent and bad results with my car not operating any better than it did with the filthy oil I removed the first time. But I will say that the first fluid served as a good, expensive flush. I used 12 quarts of that fluid, to clean up the transmission on my 2007 750 Li BMW. Then, following my poor results, I went to a reputable Automotive Parts distributor and discovered
Pentosin ATF1. This was O'Reilly Automotive. The representative knew his stuff about BMW's.
Then, I discovered the larger 5 Litre containers, here at Amazon Prime. Thanks to Amazon, I had a huge savings over buying the 1 Litre size. But, The fluid is Pentosin ATF1 and it made my BMW purr like a kitten. Before I found Pentosin ATF1, I had major problems with bucking, jerking, bumping, slipping and so forth. I was actually thinking that I had major damage and needed to replace the solenoids in my tranny. Thank you, Pentosin, for giving me back my smooth running BMW, and saving me thousands of dollars in repairs. All I have to say to others is, "Use it or loose it." I mean, Pentosin ATF1, that is!
