Keith: This was my first time trying pu-erh tea. I wanted to try a black ripe tea that was representative of a good pu-erh. I found only two with decent reviews that were not crazy expensive. This one at about $23 and another at $50 (this is still not inexpensive to me and $50 would have caused some hesitation and likely would not have happened). I also bought some chrysanthemum tea to combine with the pu-erh since the tea producer recommended that. I used the chrysanthemum with the pu-erh in my first brew. I “washed” the tea as is generally recommended by filling my mug 1/3 with boiling water and dumped the brew after about a half min (then I made my first brew). I use no sugar or cream in my tea. The tea wasn’t bad, but I didn’t taste good enough to get excited about. I decided to give it another try the next day without the chrysanthemum that I added to the first brew. The tea was “very good” without it. I will definitely drink all this tea (though it should last a long time since there is a lot in that small compressed disc). Since I’m new to pu-erh and can’t compare the flavor, I will give it 4 stars. Not sure if I’ll ever splurge for the more...

WesleyWesley:
This is a nice tasting ripe puerh for the price. At 357 grams it will last quite a long time. Ripe puerh is ready to drink, and doesn't need to be aged. It has the distinct mild and sweet flavor characteristic of ripe puerh, and every infusion produces a thick brown liquor. This cake tastes great on its own, but would also work nicely as a base for kombucha or in a tea blend.
Flavor notes: cocoa, malt, root beer
