John P Nimitz: Bought these for my 13yr old son who is entering his first time playing high school football. I searched for gloves which may fit where he might play. TE, DL or LB. These gloves are for the DL/LB position, are tacky and very well made. The XL gloves are just very slightly larger than he needs but as a 13 yr old, will grow. If you take a glove that is a LARGE, I would suggest getting an XL. The other types for WR/DB/RB/Drop into coverage LB Nike gloves are very very tight which led me to these. The Nike WR etc gloves; I bought L and I think he needs a 2XL for them to fit.
To save you a trip, if your son is entering football in high school.. stay away from Dick's. They will not have the variety that Amazon has to choose from as their line seems to be geared towards youth and not high school/college.
I hope this helps. I also googled "what the pro's wear" and this glove type is the most used by OL, DL, LB positions.
