Jocelyn McCallum: A Wolf Called Romeo is an amazing book about a lonely wild wolf who befriends the people and dogs of Juneau, Alaska. It is inspirational, hopeful and a real page turner that will make you cry. I've never felt so much emotion while reading a book. One of the best books I've ever read! You won't forget Romeo.

Ann Robins: Every person should read this! It is real story of a real wolf dealing with real obstacles of just living on a planet with us. People are programmed to fear the other species on our planet. They are gentle and fair when given the chance. Probably more so than the human stranger standing next to you. I would like to give a true hug and send all my love and light to every person that trusted this wolf and allowed this special spirit to live and play in your community and show us that there is more to our existence. Thank you to the supporting citizens of Juneau. You received a gift.

Kindle Customer: Nick Jans has done a good job with this book. It was obviously a very emotional undertaking and yet he kept the story crisp and was careful not to be judgmental with regards to the behaviors of others. I have only seen one wolf in the wild. It was in Canada and I was archery hunting black bears. The wolf slid in from my right side very quietly and then stared directly at me in the stand. I was in full camouflage including a face cover. There was absolutely no movement from me as I was totally transfixed by the eyes. Unless you have seen the deep yellow eyes, you can’t really know how riveting it is. He was gray and he was thin, kind of lanky but he was certainly alert and healthy. He held my gaze for about a minute and finally reached the conclusion that I was a hunter. Without taking his eyes off me, he slid backwards until his tail found a tree. He then slid around the tree until only his head was exposed, still watching.
In an instant, he spun and was gone. This event occurred about 20 years ago and I still think about it often. Reading this book made me realize how unique Romeo was and how blessed the people were who got to know him. I wish I could have been so lucky.

D Robinson: This book was absolutely the best book I've ever read...by a landslide. To think that I "stumbled" on it, while looking for something else, blows my mind. It drew me in from the first page, held my heart delicately through some of the most exquisite writing I've ever read, exposing breath-taking beauty, & heart-stopping experiences, while gracefully weaving an intricate story of a wolf that mankind may never be so lucky to experience ever again. The author is so tactful at being non-judgmental of negative people & their often horrific actions, that those with the strength to persevere through the painful truth, will find the love for this wolf, by the author, by the town of Juneau, & eventually by the world who discovers this story, is haunting, & "carries long after the last page is turned"... As another review said (& I emphatically agree!) "if you only have time to read one book, make it this one..." EXTRAORDINARY!!!

ROGUE: Jans’ writing style is lean and informative, but it is in his storytelling that the book shines. In some ways it reads as one long murder mystery/eulogy to Romeo, beginning with his first appearance and well-researched pontifications as to what caused him to linger in the area and fraternize with numerous canines, and going all the way through to the wolf’s untimely demise as the hands of, what is far too common in Alaska: would-be sportsmen with little woodsmen skills, looking for easy kills and displaying little to no actual animal hunting skill or ethics.
As a resident of this state, I was aware of Romeo’s story from newspaper articles during the time the wolf was still alive, but was surprised to read many facts in Jans’ book that were left out of some of these news stories. Facts such as the first person to bring an accusation that Romeo killed their dog, had on him at the time, a predator call. There were also many details relating to the court cases of the creatures known as Myers and Peacock that were absent in the newspaper stories.
This book sheds light on what is often overlooked about wolves, and animals in general, which is they have their own remarkable...

jaymo o'harland: The story of Romeo, a wolf who lived close to Juneau, Alaska and touched many of the people who had the chance to meet him.
Nick Jans writes a very touching story. At the same time he gives us a deeper insight into the possible trouble between wild animals and people living in the same area. Romeo was a black wolf who tried to connect to people's dogs to have fun with and play. He was always relaxed around pets and never really harmed any of them. But some people started to forget that he in fact was a wild animal and not something to cuddle. Jans arises questions as how people should behave towards wildlife and nature and gives us a wide range of perspectives. The book is very well researched and it is written both from personal experience - as Romeo started to get into contact with his own dogs and sometimes hung around his garden or just could be viewed from the windows of his house - on the other hand Jans summarizes the broader picture about what happened to Romeo in his lifetime and to the people who got to know him (both supporters and critics).
After reading this book I also did some search on the internet about Romeos story and I am still kind of addicted to it. I...
