Mountain House Freeze Dried Diced Beef - Perfect for Survival and Emergency Food Prep

Rusty: Mountain House products are simply the best. I have used freeze dried food extensively while backpacking and have no complaints. An ideal emergency food for long term storage.

Johnny Beans: I, like most people, bought this for long term storage so I can’t tell you exactly what it tastes like.
I can tell you a couple of things. Rice and beans alone will get old in a hurry. Buy spices and stuff like this to go with. Taste? I’ve tried a large number of MH products over the years. Never had one that was terrible.
I liked some better than others. All are salty, but used as a condiment, who cares? Expensive? Oh heck yes!
Gone up $20 in the last month or so in part because more people are getting on the clue bus. Look around and keep your eye out for the occasional price reduction. Buying these in cans is cheaper than the small camping size pouches.
Not to lecture, but if things ever get really really bad, the money you had in the bank won’t mean much. I’m not suggesting moving to Saskatchewan and digging a hole, but some reasonable precautions might be good.

Tesla: Mountain House is top quality but they have a tendency to go overboard with sodium in some meals. With this meat only can you get a serving of the diced beef that has nearly 40% of your daily sodium intake. Lets be honest - you are probably having a double serving when you eat this. When You look at their other meats such as their ground beef or diced chicken you only get 20% of your daily sodium intake with a serving. A more reasonable amount of salt. Lastly these two other meat offerings typically are cheaper than the diced beef. However I have purchased the diced beef when it goes on sale.

This is our favorite brand of prepared meals and their individual meats are worthy as well. They don't use any fake meat (TVP) at all. No additives, no preservatives, nothing but, in this case, meat and a little salt.

Their meals do not use heavy salt or citric acid for fake flavor nor are they empty calories with tons of sugars.

Look for nutrition, not calories, in your camping/hiking/backpacking/prepping supplies. Of course, a 30+ yr shelf life is gravy.

They carry all their meals in 2-3 serving size pouches that are great for BOBs and get-home bags, as well as camping and hiking. You can taste test everything before you buy the large #10s. I've been buying and eating their stuff for almost 2 decades.

If you're going to prep, you might as well make it food you can enjoy.
