Denise: I just needed something to add to a pot outside and I couldn't believe the cost for sand! This was the cheapest at the time I needed it but it was more or less play-ground sand cleaned up. It worked for what I needed but I won't buy again.

Amazon Customer: I found this product as a reference from another soil cover product, which was designed specifically to handle gnats. The idea with the other product was that the synthetic material couldn’t hold any moisture, and made it impossible for gnats to land on and lay eggs. Or for the larvae to surface. That product was no longer available, but the webpage promoting it recommended this brand of sand as their top choice for handling fungus gnats.
I tried Mosquito Bits but wasn’t having any luck. People on YouTube were saying that it would take 3-4 waterings, but after 2, I didn’t see any reduction. I’m sure it does work for a lot of people. Also tried the neem oil thing, but it only seemed temporary (a few hours). The gnat infestation had already been going on for over a month, and I wasn’t comfortable handling the bits.
The sand worked almost instantly. I poured a layer in the pot about an inch thick. Didn’t even wait for the soil to dry, just put it right in. First night the yellow sticky mats had an 80% reduction in gnats. By day 2 there was maybe a handful of additional gnats. They’re not flying around anymore or showing up in random places. Day 3 - 99%...

Cat: Not worth the price, I impulse purchased it, I guess for me it just wasn't enough sand - plus I realized later there is less expensive sand at the hardware store. But it was nice sand anyways just a bit steep $ imo
