Mark: Fantastic book on how capitalism can be transformed to enable finance to be channeled towards addressing the major problems we face as a society at scale through a mission oriented approach. Let’s get to work!

Santiago Villaveces Izquierdo: thoughtful analysis on how to democratize value creation by involving all. A hope for a better future where we can indeed thrive in harmonious relationship with our surroundings. A hope for 21st century capitalism

Victor Casillas: This book is a must read for everyone interested, not only in the economy and the role of public and private sectors acting together, but in making way for the new world to come, and shape the new institutions that must emerge for this new era.

Mariana Mazzucato has layed down a vision that is more than necessary in this turbulent times, imminent to shape the future, creating synergies between public and private sectors, just as humanity has done before during the space race, but now what's at stake is the survival of the planet and, of course, mankind.

This book is not only about innovation, but about survival, a sort of user's manual to act together to tackle humanity's greatest challenges and survive to tell new stories.

A must read by an award winning author who knows what she is talking about. So if you think we can do better and that we must act now, read the book and see you on the new world!

jarratt: I so disliked writing a so-so (or, worse review) for Dr. Mazzucato's last book on Value. It is an accomplished academic work that deserves an audience among economists. For a layperson seeking an author's insight, it was lacking.

The Entrepreneurial State (2015) is one of the most important books I've ever read. I found its insights compelling. Mission Economy (this book) is where Mariana Mazzucato puts a fearsome stake in the ground and gives us a clear and succinct path through which capitalism can be revitalized to serve humanity and the planet.

The author has the stature to take on the vital issue of what's wrong with letting bankers and 1%ers run the economy. This is not a screed. Dr. Mazzucato has paid a lot of dues in the transformation trenches. I join her in believing that the remedies she prescribes are possible.

I bought a second copy to give to my public library. I may buy more!

Keith Bishop: Well written in a persuasive manner that greater cooperation between the private and public spheres is capitalism’s most effective path forward. The author addresses two of societies greatest challenges: income disparity and climate change - and then explains how a more cooperative capitalistic system could benefit all social rungs instead of perpetuating a system that overwhelming favors capital over labor. All that Ms. Mazzucato espouses mirrors my writings that seeks cooperation to plan, fund, and execute game changing projects that propelled America to earlier greatness and led to a thriving middle-class. Projects such as The Manhattan Project, The Marshall Plan, The Highways and Bridges Act of 1956 and NASA.

Thought provoking book that demonstrates with clarity how capitalism can be reformed to deliver positive returns for all segments of society.

Lance McNeill: I agree with the author’s overarching goal and identifying some of our biggest challenges like public health and the climate emergency. However , I don’t think more government and bigger government budgets is the way to solve them. The author proposes several public and private sector innovations that should happen, but honestly, these are ideas that have been around for decades - the more interesting unanswered questions are about why they haven’t taken hold yet. Without those answers all the brilliant ideas can just continue to be regurgitated from one book to the next.

Valente Souza: Black Rocks Larry Finch validated for the XXI century, our at least the next 10 years until 2030, a "decent" capitalism. It was stated at the beginning by Adam Smith on On Moral Sentiment. Here we are again, and Phd Mazzucato argues the issue correctly. Mervin King's the Alchemy of Money, just after 2008, argued in a breathtaking way similar concepts.,

Peter: Marianna Mazzucato's "Mission Economy" is a rather short volume of work, but is intriguing piece in trying to upturn economic theory by using the analogue of United States goal of beating the Soviet Union to land a man on the Moon during the 1960s.
She careful crafts her case for governments to lead big projects upfront like Apollo rather than shy away from tasks seeking attention. There is certainly a strong argument made page after page for believing in such a theory as you work your way through the book.
The Moonshot approach is ideally suited towards the tasks that confront the world now like unprecedented climate change and public health emergencies.
I would recommend this book to has an open mind on the future of capitalism post-Covid.

Hande Z: Marianna Mazzucato has followed up her fascinating book, ‘The Value of Everything’, published in 2018, with this arresting analysis of the flaws of capitalism as exposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. ‘Defeating the pandemic’, she says, ‘requires huge investments in physical and social goods and services – from the race to develop a vaccine or effective therapies, personal protection equipment and appropriate methods of online learning for children not in school to new thinking about social safety nets’. Hence, she concludes, this is all a litmus test of national capacity and effective governance.

She asserts that the conventional thinking among capitalist countries that governments are clunky bureaucracies that cannot innovate is bad attitude, and it is the sort of narrow thinking that must be abandoned. In this book, she examines the micro properties of a capitalist system through the way organisations are governed, and she contrasts that with the macro patterns of growth a state strives for. She says that it is wrong to ask how much money there is, and what can a government do with that sum. She asserts that the right question is: ‘what needs doing and how can...
