KrisKris: I used this brand and style for my 2023 Hobonichi Cousin, and it fit perfectly. Has lasted all year, no complaints. Bought a new one for my 2024 Hobonichi Cousin, and it’s so tight it folded the spine and pushed the pages out oddly, and the cover won’t close.

Theresa SipeTheresa Sipe: Like others said, it’s a tight fit on the hobonichi cousin. I bought it to use on my 2024 cousin and it wouldn’t close… not like the videos I watched, but much much tighter. If I forced it the binding bowed. I thought I was going to return, but then I thought I would take a hair dryer to it to see if it would stretch. Problem solved. With the cover on and the front cover open at 90 deg I started to “dry” the edge of the binding and slowly closed the cover to stretch. It now fits like a glove.

Daniel Burnett: I bought it to cover my hobonichi cousin, it fits perfectly. Just make sure to remove the cardboard that comes in it and squeeze your hobonichi to get it flexible. It fits like a tight pair of jeans but definitely protects it and the pen loop is helpful too. Will buy again.

Angela: I originally bought this for my 2024 Hobonichi Cousins and it's just a little bit of a tight fit. I bought this off a recommendation from a Hobonichi journal vlogger and theirs was loose on their hobonichi but I did buy the exact one. That said, this is a great cover and it covers everything. I guess I'd rather it be tighter than looser. It was pulling on the covers a bit but after leaving heavy books on the hobonichi with the cover on overnight, it seemed to help flatten it? I assume it'll get a bit looser with use.

ALL OF THAT SAID, definitely worth the money for a Cousins protector that isn't gonna break the bank.

dkpwatsondkpwatson: I wanted a protective clear cover for my A5 Hobonichi Plain Notebook. This comes with a cover of thick card, which is ok but will likely not last, given that the notebook contains 288 pages. So having checked the measurements of the notebook and this Midori cover, I knew that they could work together. They do.

The notebook was a tight fit, and I had to bend back both the front and rear book covers so I could slide them into the end slots. Once inserted, the notebook closes properly and when opened, still lies flat. The thickness of the Hobonichi Plain Notebook is 10mm with W: 148 x H: 210, so if your notebook is equal or less than those dimensions, you should be able to use this very nice Midori A5 cover. BTW I believe the Half Year Cousin has the same dimensions as the Plain Notebook.

The plastic is flexible yet thick, very clear and looks to have a solid seam. There is a pen slot on the rear cover, which seems to be of thinner plastic but I won't be using it, as I keep my pens in a pen case.

Overall I'm very pleased with this Notebook case. It looks good, does the job well and above all fits the notebook I bought it for.

Bill P.: I always buy covers for my Midori MD notebooks because I really like keeping the rice paper covers on them but those covers, while being very pretty, are very easy to rip and bend. I have experience with both the cardboard paper covers and these plastic ones. Both are good for different purposes.

What's great about the clear plastic ones is that you're able to clearly see the beauty of the notebook beneath it and the cover fits so snugly that you almost don't notice it's there. Getting it on is a bit tricky as you come close to bending the cover to get the covers in. One cover fits perfectly snug but then when you have to place the other side in that's when you're in danger of bending the other cover. Just be careful during the process and you'll be fine.

The plastic covers are great for protecting against spills and other sorts of dirt and are easy to clean. The cardboard paper covers on the other hand will also protect from water but only to a point as they will eventually soak in any liquid that gets on them.
