Bruce_5800: This pump (I bought the larger one) moves an impressive volume of water with every cycle of the handle. The unit is easy to assemble (1 step), and is easy to use. The only 'could be better' point (but does not materially affect the operation of the pump is: water leaks just a little where the piston enters the body of the top of the pump unit. It's a trickle and not really an issue — depending on what's in the (bilge) water you're dealing with. Again, this trickle of a leak does not affect the effectiveness of the pump; which does indeed move a lot of water with every stroke / cycle of the handle. I'm ultimately happy with this device.

Lisa Nos: I bought this to pump out the inside of my kayak. It works well, and moves a decent amount of water with each stroke. The problem is the end of the tube must be in roughly 1/4" of water, which is alot in the relatively flat hull. But with the kayak tipped so the water was in one end, the pump didn't reach.
I added about a 18" of tubing to the inlet and it still pumps well. But that created another problem of trying to keep the inlet tube and outflow tubes in position and still work the pump.
If I was pumping a bucket into another container or open space it moves a lot of water with little effort. But consider the configuration of your space.

mikeyiceis: Great little pump. Was concerned about the tightly coiled hose so I placed it in warm water and uncoiled it and slid it down a broom stick. Worked like a charm.

NS Blue: Pump works great , primes fast and has no leaking. People complained about the hose hard to straighten out. Just put it over a mop or broom handle put it in the sun for a bit or hit it with a hair dryer, no problem then.

Georgia DawgGeorgia Dawg: I always read the 1-star and 2-star reviews before reading 4- & 5-star reviews on Amazon products. A few comments from the 1- & 2-star ratings complained of the difficulty with using the hose due to its refusal to straighten out from its tightly coiled position once removed from its shipping box. Oh, yes. It is very tightly coiled and impossible to use in this configuration.

What I did was to slip the hose over the handle of my rake, a broom handle could be used, and laid it out in the sun onto my concrete driveway for a few hours. I even rotated/twisted the hose 180-degrees half way through the time it was "sunbathing" for "insurance". Voila! A near, perfectly straight hose!

After use, I pump fresh water through the pump to clean the system interior and hang it so that the hose hangs down to keep it straight.

The instructions state that this size pump is appropriate for kayaks and canoes and I can see where, within tight quarters, this small pump would be effective. If I was to order another hand-operated, bilge pump similar to this one for general use around the house, I would choose a larger size. This little pump works well but requires a lot of...
