Autumn Jones: Shew.... This has to be my favorite Lucy Score book yet. I fell in love with every character in this. I laughed and cried so many times during this read. This book truly felt as though I had been transported to Benevolence as if I were a citizen there myself. What an emotional ride with this one!

Emily Stockton: This is a book I make sure to read every year because I love the depth and layers of the characters. The overall story is super engaging and the romantic scenes make you squeal with joy instead of cringe. I love this book and I am thankful for the authors efforts. Definitely a must read if you enjoy a passionate romance.

Jess M: I couldn’t put this book down. It was funny, engaging, clever, mysterious, and so incredibly heartfelt. It’s as if a tame 50 Shades of Gray had a love child with Hallmark. Wonderful sexy scenes with an enthralling, engaging story. I can’t remember the last time I got this mad at a character as I did with Luke. Excellent story telling. And as a foster/adoptive mom of three wonderful children: I LOVED that part of the story line. I would absolutely read this again and again.

Louise Darnbrough: I could not put this down. What a great story about second chances and finding family. I knew from the first chapter this was going to be a book that kept me enthralled and it did not disappoint.
The only bad thing I could possibly say is that I’m going to exhausted for the school run in a few hours since I absolutely had to finish it.

Belinda: I usually enjoy stories of love with anyone in the military, anyone on the front line and the like. This was a cute and for me, quick read and it had some suspense. It must’ve been written quite a while ago. Her more recent books don’t feel as bland as this one can be at times. The sex was fine, but sparse. The dangers never got toooo close. The hero was one of her best written once you find our why he’s reluctant in the relationship. It was all tied up with a Christmas bow and an included prologue vs having to sign up over and over for the same newsletter to get access to any form of continued tale a year or two later.

Why not just include them and offer something like snippets of a fun moment between the lovers if you want vs holding a reader hostage to signing up for now over 10 versions of her newsletter. I enjoy her books, her curvy heroines and her muscle bound heroes. There’s just a need for more…danger sometimes.

I did like how this heroine went cold on the man of her dreams. I wasn’t sure about the religious connections of…no, don’t want to give away too much. This girl was fun in her ditzy ways, but she seems to be almost rewritten in a...

🌸Kuchiki Claudia🌸: This book!!! I loved it so much!! I was intrigued from the first few sentences. I wanted to know more about Harper and Luke and their situations. I was so sad to learn Harper had been in foster care since she was a child and no one adopted her😭. She is amazing and deserves all the love. Luke's family is truly the best!! I love Soph anf Ty so much!! James is so silly 😂. And Josh is so cute!! And Aldo!!! I love him so much too. And Gloria too!! She is so nice and also deserves all the love. And Robbie and Henry are so cute!! As soon as I read about Luke playing with them in his backyard and them staying for dinner, and their question about whether they would be adopted and then Harper and Luke's conversation about it, I wanted them to adopt those kids and their sister. I love grumpy Frank, too. And their conversation when she told him she loves him was heartbreaking. I felt so bad for the both of them, especially Harper. I totally get where Luke was coming from and Harper was so cool about it, but I just wanted to hug them. Lola and Max are the most adorable dogs ever! And I was so sad when he left for his deployment. But then he texted Harper and asked her to...

Anni (Bella) reads a lot: I had a re-release copy with the new cover on May 9, 2023

I’ve read a few Lucy Score books before, including the second book in this Benevolence series, a little over two years ago. I purchased this book, Pretend You’re Mine, at the same time, but unfortunately it sat in my Kindle library and others piled up on top and it was forgotten… I do enjoy Score’s writing, but her books are generally very emotional reads and I definitely have to be in the right frame of mind.

Harper and Luke’s story runs concurrently with Gloria and Aldo’s story (the second book, Finally Mine), the one I’ve already read, so it felt like I came back to something familiar but slightly different - seeing it from a different angle. Just as with the other, it was heartbreaking. I’m not an emotional reader, but this, as with the other, had tears streaming down my face, and not just once! This never (and I’m not exaggerating) happens! She writes in a way that made me feel everything the characters are experiencing, and like I’m part of the story. Many authors make me read like I can visualize it as a movie, but Score has me feel like I’m one of the characters.

Ana: Loved It. Luke is hurt from the past and doesn't want to love again but... Harper is difficult to not be loved. Good start for a series.

SR: I'm a big fan of Lucy Score's writing and like any of her other books, truly enjoyed this one too.
Harper is called impulsive, a walking disaster and God knows what else but for me she is an absolutely amazing human being. Its easy in life to be forlorn when things don't go well for us but not Harper. She's walking Sunshine, strong, resilient and lives with an attitude of what do I have to lose? Loved her, loved Luke too although I wanted to hit him more than once for not seeing what was obvious. But then can't fault him either because I do know of people who have taken a very long time to get over their grief and being oblivious to good even when it hits them in the face. It's sad but I guess everyone needs their own time to heal.
But Harper just gets him, even when she's unhappy with how he is behaving. Loved her, loved how protective Luke was of her (and especially when he's jealous!), loved the family and the small town put-my-nose-in-your-business feel. Beautiful love story with a lot of heartbreaking moments. But that's pretty much with any Lucy Score book! Fantastic :)
