Muzickero: I was looking for a good entry level uke as I mainly play acoustic and electric guitars and I considered several brands including Cordoba, Mahalo, and other cheaper brands but finally settled to get a concert size Makala after watching some videos and reading reviews.
I’m not going to talk about the specs of this product since you can get that online especially from youtube but I will focus more on my impression as a first time ukulele owner.
I bought this package because it was a pretty good deal, with a semi hard case and a tuner, it’s really good value for money.
The case doesn’t look cheap at all and im not worried accidentally dropping it with the uke inside or bumping onto something.
The tuner is okay, not very good looking but it does the job..which is err. Tuning 
Now, the uke itself looks pretty well built, the action is right with no fret buzz, the finish is just varnish I think, the neck is smooth and the tuning keys are smooth and easy to tune and the uke itself stays in tune. Jack Humphrey: The sound quality was good, but not great, and they packed it with a CD for guitars instead of Ukelele's. Got it while it was on sale, and would recommend it at that price point.

APB: Right out of the package this uklele was exactly what I expected. It's a really handsome instrument, especially for the price. The tuner comes with a battery and works very well. I was worried after reading some reviews about the quality of the strings it came with -- and honestly, I have nothing to complain about. They've stayed in tune astonishingly well.

sheepman: As a music teacher and professional performer for nearly 40 years I've see all kinds and grades of fretted instruments.

The Kala brand Pineapple-style soprano uke has cut costs where it matters least (cosmetic flourishes) and put the value where it matters most: Sound quality and playability.

As several reviewers have cited in the past, the strings leave something to be desired, but are adequate for any beginner.

The main problem with most of these less expensive ukuleles is intonation problems.

One thing few reviewers ever mention is the fact that the hardest string to compensate for is the lowest pitched, or third string on a soprano uke. (Compensation means adjustment of the bridge saddle position so each string has an identical pitch when struck while being fretted at the 12th fret as the harmonic produced when struck while being merely touched at the 12th fret.)

The 3rd string was out of tune with itself--but that was the only one. With such a short string length and such stretchy material as nylon, if only the 3rd string has faulty compensation then this can practically always be attributed to the strings.

Uker laying: I did alot of research into deciding what to buy as my first uke, so I already was sure that the Makala would be exactly what I was looking for. So let me start by telling you about my experience buying from this particular seller.

On the day I was expecting my uke to arrive I received an email that my package had been broken up into two shipments. Later that day the first arrived. It was the case, tuner, and polishing cloth. No uke. Big disappointment, right? WRONG!! Two days later the uke finally arrived and my disappointment was quickly washed away when I discovered that it also came with a free gig bag! And not just a crappy thin bag that's little more than a plastic covering. The gig bag is pretty decent quality, is padded to add some protection and has a couple pockets to put things in. The hard case is best for home storage, and I have alot of learning before I'm ready to play shows. But the gig bag is definitely going to be very useful, and getting it for free on top of everything else in the package makes this a really great deal. The hard case is also pretty good quality, and the polishing cloth isn't a tiny "throw in" to make the overall package seem like a deal....
