Braden Mckay: The 4 stars is for the packaging but the snacks taste really good so far.

Ashley Redford: The snacks were amazing but we had a lot of the same.

Amazon Customer: I was very pleased with this bundle because a prior purchase from another had far less variety. This one had a good variety of different items. I appreciated not having a lot of fish-centric items or corn sticks, so I got to try a nice variety.

As for giftable, I would recommend shipping it to yourself and packaging from there. Like many others, this comes in a shopping bag, and it doesn’t have an item list. It’s simply a shopping bag full of great snacks. It would be nice if it came in a nicer, clear bag (akin to a kind of clear party-request grab bag that is just a flat sheet of plastic wrapped around and tied with a bread tie for example) to spruce it up for a gift if you are delivering it straight to their home, but that’s a very minor detail. The snacks overall were good, I had the advertised amount (when you factored in some packages of ramen-like chips we’re together), and it had a great variety that didn’t lean too much in any particular way. I would highly recommend this if you are unable to visit Japan currently and want to try some new snacks.

Amazon (not the supplier) packaged mine with some heavy cans of soup, causing the bag to rupture, so I...

derek: First of all it came in a grocery store bag which was disappointing, secondly there was a mini cup of ramen in there which was quite unexpected and of course the instructions are Japanese so I don't even know how to cook them, finally there's one supposed candy that's in one of those pill packages where you can see the pills and you pop them out through the foil on the back. Definitely not trying those. I haven't fully gone through everything yet but other than that everything seems to look good and of the few things I tried everything tasted very good and everything is very unique

katlyne: I have had a lot of these snacks in previous dagashi boxes. Almost everything was delicious but the sudako con taro translated to pickled octopus. It was gross. Heavily pickled with vinegar and heavily salted this was the only snack in the whole box that was inedible. All around though I give it 5 stars. I was highly satisfied with the dagashi box that was sent to me.

Dustin: I bought this box for myself for my birthday. With COVID-19 restrictions, this is about as close of an experience as I can get to visiting Japan without leaving my house.

For me this was very worth the money. It creates a once-in-a-lifetime experience of trying dozens of new foods for the first time. I felt like a child who had never tried basic foods before. Plus with some of the labels you don't even know what to expect before you bite in.

All snacks were fresh. I didn't find any that were past expiry date. Most were un-crushed and in good condition.

I agree with another recent comment that it appears they've reformatted the box to have more variety and less corn snacks. Or at least lots of different tastes and textures for all of the corn snacks. It has some of everything... sweet, salty, fruity, and just plain weird. So give less weight to older reviews with this complaint.

If I could change one thing, I also agree with a previous reviewer's sentiment to remove all fish-flavored snacks. Although don't let this fear stop you from trying it... fishy stuff is a very small proportion of the box... maybe 5 out of 85. Maybe still a nice addition for the...

Jorge R.Jorge R.: I'll start by saying that I absolutely do not understand why all the complaints about the cornmeal snacks, I had no issues whatsoever with those, in fact, they are delicious and I can definitely see that the seller is aware of the customers' reviews and adjusted. In my package, I got not many of the said cornmeal snacks, even though I think they are great. I even got one that was apple pie flavor! and I fell off of my chair when I tasted it, so damn tasty! Secondly, what is the deal with all the complaints about small candy, like seriously, you can't expect to get jumbo packages for everything. This box is very generous and most important of all, VERY tasty like you can't even compare with the sstuff we have in north America, Japan snacks simply BEATS the heck out of most things we have.

I can't say enough to praise this box, but I got so much stuff I loved, like the banana candy in the picture I attached it was soooooooo good. My only suggestion to cater better this product to a ''white'' audience (as in western, European and north American) would be to include fewer fish-flavored snacks. We are not very used to these, and at least for myself, I am not very accustomed so I...

KisekiKiseki: I had braced myself for the worst. After I bought this, I sorted the reviews by new and discovered many people had been complaining recently about the meager lot they got.
I am happy to report, I must have been lucky! After you break apart all the bigger pieces that are bundled together, it does come out to around 85 pieces including around 20 or so very small pieces. Most of them are lunch box sized bags of chips or crackers, or some sort of cheese poufs. Out of all the packaging, a individually wrapped rice cake was cracked in half, and a single Umaibo had been reduced to dust, unopened inside its wrapper. In my opinion, that is a pretty good casualty rate.
The lot I got did not come in a rectangle see through bag. It came in a moderately large shopping bag that you might expect to get when buying stuff from a nice clothing store. (I posted a picture of the bag.) Upon arrival the bag itself was twisted shut and taped with something resembling blue electrical tape.
Pictured is about 4/5ths of the whole lot. The rest of the stuff that is not pictured is the really itsy-bitsy stuff.
Overall, I’m relatively pleased. The expiration dates are all set to expire in less...

Brooke: So, as advertised this does have 85 snacks. It's a little misleading to show a huge box of snacks and for it to show up in a box with the rest of my order in a bag. I don't think it's worth 70 bucks, I think I could have done better at our local store. We live we learn. It is exactly what is advertised (except the box) and my daughter will probably love it. Also when price checking it on the internet it's about priced pretty close. Also since it was Prime it actually came in a day early, way faster than if you order off most other sites.

Update 5/5/2020: She did love the snacks. Still not worth $70 though, should include more.

Claudia G. Williams: I'm not sure why this super-size assortment got negative reviews! I got a great variety, lots of interesting and good tasting items, all fresh and in fun packaging. This assortment has less sweet and more savory snacks, which is just what I was hoping for! Yes, there are some odd tasting things, and some small items, but most of them are pretty yummy and decently sized. At around 60 cents an item, I think it's pretty reasonable. I would consider this as an inventive gift for a young person or a slightly goofy friend - maybe that makes me a bit goofy, too? I love it, and will probably order again. Right now I'm having some pumpkin-tasting crunchy puffs, and I like them. On to that package of something with a big shrimp on it!
