Faerie Girl: My cat LOVES the OurPets Catty Whack but the feathers simply stick into a silicone base and he pulls them out when he catches the toy, then he demolished the silicone base so no new feathers can fit in. I thought this one would be perfect because these feathers twist into the base. I even thought it would be cool that there are three speeds but the "fast" speed is *maybe* medium and my cat catches it immediately each time. I even replaced the batters after 1 month of use because it was so slow, I assumed it was because he'd worn down the batteries. It also stops for several seconds at a time so he gets bored. I don't know if this is supposed to have motion detection but if so, that doesn't work. I will give it points for durability though! My exuberant cat pounces on it, crashes into it, flips it over and it is still in great shape.

Unfortunately after a few seconds he is bored because it's so slow. I'm super disappointed - I had high hopes for this! I Will continue to look for a replacement for the Catty Whack because this isn't it.

S. Dudley: I’ve owned a few of these now and every cat I’ve ever presented it to has gone bonkers over it. My last cat went through two. She was a destructive little monkey, but actually a pretty big cat. She could actually grab the feather in her mouth and pick the whole unit up in her mouth and carry it or flick her neck and throw it. She was tough on these, but she really liked beating them up. The cat I have now enjoys sitting and staring at it and occasionally swatting at it. She lets me know she wants to play with it by going and sitting next to it and looking from me to it until I go turn it on. They’re pretty sturdy unless your cat throws them, even then, the case, etc holds up fine. It’s the feathers that take a beating. It comes with one extra feather in the box, but I’d recommend getting the package of spares, too. The batteries last a really long time, even with regular play. It’s a little noisy, but the cats seem to get used to that quickly. It’s a really great toy.

J. Lawrence: Really a great toy for a bored cat. Mine absolutely loved it until he wore it out. The feathers that is. The replacement feathers are very difficult to change. I never managed to get the new ones put in. I just bought a different toy.

Christopher Stone: The media could not be loaded.  I have a hyperactive cat who is super demanding, so I'm always on the lookout for something that will provide him with some automated play, both to keep him from driving me nuts, and for when I'm not at home. This toy has a great mechanic of teasing the cat with a feather that pops in and out of several different holes, "whack-a-mole" style. My cat actually really likes this and, depending on his mood, he'll either ignore it completely, or get really engaged with it. I have several suggested improvements that would make this a blockbuster hit in my house, and I imagine for others too. I'm frustrated that no one has had the insight to make these simple changes to any toys in order to provide what cat owners need:

- Make it something that can stimulate the cat when the owner is away. If this could activate on a timer every hour, or two hours, or at random, it would entertain my cat all day! If there was a wifi option so it could be activated remotely, you could charge 5 times as much and I bet people would buy it.
- I even think that if there was a simple "On" switch that the cat could manipulate, like a long lever coming out the top,...

K.C.: The media could not be loaded.  Great toy! My cat loves to play and seems to have an endless amount of energy which is why I've been on the hunt for interactive toys like this one. Keeps him busy. My cat has become so obsessed with the toy that he will try to play with it even when it's off and sit and cry/meow at me until I turn it on again when he wants to play. The only complaints I have is that the feather came off very easily within just 5mins of him playing with it for the first time. I tried to put it back in but because there's no glue or anything, my cat managed to rip it out again 1 min later. I had to improvise and get some super glue to make sure it stays put. Also, like one previous reviewer mentioned, it only goes on for 8 minutes which isn't enough for my cat so I have to keep going back to turn it on.

EDIT:
So my cat likes to bite when he plays with toys. When the stick/feather comes out, he sometimes bites onto it and doesn't let go which can mess up the machine a bit. Because of this, I've noticed that the toy now does some weird mechanical noises and gitches on occasion. There's no way to open it up to examine and try to repair it so you're stuck...

Michael Gorman: I got this for my bored, indoor, one year old Maine Coon, and she absolutely loves it! The random movement of the feather keeps her entertained for ages, and she loves trying to pick it up and carry it with her. It’s hilarious! After a bit over a week, she has almost denuded the feather, though, so I’ll have to replace the feather sooner than I’d like. It is also quite noisy - sounds like a printer - which is why I took off a point. If it were quieter, it would be the perfect cat toy!
