Dr. Steve Dudley: For golfers of all ages. For some a dance down memory lane, for others the important transmission of a legacy and a lesson that golf has a history as rich and important as any country in the world. I was sent to bed for several nights by the book, full of visions of inspired descriptions of fundamental motions. I honestly believe “sleeping on it” has helped my game, especially as my 72 years attest: technique and confidence are the winning bedfellows!

Darrell Fluet: This book may be old, but the basics of the game have not changed. The way he explains stance, swing, spin and how to think about the game are excellent and understandable. It’s a bit wordy in some spots but the words are all meaningful.

Rhoda M. Martin: I love the way the book offers substantive and effective tips on improving your swing. I’ve had a few lessons and found that without reminding myself of the basic mechanics of a perfect swing I was losing my distance and precision. Practical guidance is good to keep me progressing and this book has helped me more than many others I’ve tried.

Michael Levenhagen:
While many here argue that the book is essentially useless for novices to the game, I'd disagree. I'd say it depends upon what kind of student one is. If a reader of any discipline is diligent, intelligent, and motivated, there would be very little in the book that requires prior experience to *concepts* and proven expertise. I found no terms or ideas in the book that a regular person could not imaginatively understand conceptually with some effort. Of course, competent implementation requires close practice in golf, pretty much like it does in any sport reliant upon eye-hand coordination, mind-body integration, and a competitive spirit. I'd say the author (and his team) explain issues very well, indeed. I think the book could be fruitfully read serially from one chapter to another, and it could also be used as a kind of reference manual for different issues. The more personal comments by Nicklaus along the way were appreciated by me and added richness and provided interest to continue reading his book. Those who only want the technical "solutions" in golf may be missing a part of the game that makes it so enduring and attractive (and addictive).

Joseph G. Wick:
Jack surprises and will delight any lover of golf. This book might be better titled "Life My Way," since it is more of a memoir than an instruction book.
That's good, since the advice given is nothing almost every golfer has not heard in other books or from his pro. It is a bit dated advice wise. For instance, Jack gives a fair amount of advice particular to long irons, yet most of us today use hybrids. Transferring the knowledge is difficult, and maybe not possible. Also, Jack relies on his own physiological characteristics in developing his style which might not be very applicable to those with other characteristics such as leg strength and hand size. Be cautious of imitation!
In some ways this book is a good antidote for those addicted to golf. While Jack still plays he seems to have formed a greater attachment to tennis for personal pleasure. Nevertheless, I really liked the book because it seems to reveal the real person underneath the legend. And, Jack is a very interesting person.
