Anne McKay: Makes you wonder why many America's complain about their life. This is an amazing true story about the positive about America if you work at it. This woman is a true inspiration.

Luanne Booth: Attention teachers: An inspiring narrative. Would be a great read/discussion project in social studies class. Accessible, informative, hopeful and provocative.

Wilbeaux: Exactly what you want a memoir to be: personal. Read Ilhan’s story in her own words. Not manipulated or biased. Her strength and vulnerability are in full display as she takes you from the school yard, through a war zone, and into Minneapolis politics. Ignore the trolls. She is for the people because she is the people. Can not recommend enough.

BONUS: If you can listen to the audiobook, Ilhan’s voice adds an extra layer to an already personal memoir.

Amazon Customer: Reading this book was inspiring. A Somalian refugee as a child to a young political activist to a member of Congress. Omar's story filled me with hope that we can elect such an intelligent decent person to Congress but nausea that she and other progressive women of color are targets of vile attacks by today's Trumpists. Omar has written a slender but perceptive and satisfying account of her journey to and success in America.

CountryGurl: I'm not a fan of Ilhan Omar after hearing so many ridiculous things she's said on tv, but I read this book anyway because I'm scared she's the future of our country, so I want to understand how she thinks.

The most interesting part for me was on p. 162-165. Minnesota Republicans wanted people to have to show ID cards to be able to vote. The Democrats fought hard against this. Omar admits in the book that it's very easy for people in Minnesota of all races to get ID cards. She says the DMV is centrally located and low cost. Yet she fought hard against the ID card requirement anyway, just vaguely stating it took away freedom. She won. Because voters there now don't have to show IDs, it's obviously much easier for voter fraud to take place. Is this how she won reelection? And why Trump lost Minnesota?
