Jen: We have them on rails next to our rooftop tent and they work really well. It’s a bit of a pain strapping down but that’s our own doing. We use extra straps just for piece of mind as they straps they come with aren’t great. I’ll try and add a picture later.

Reason for a four is the straps they come with are not the best.

PJ: The metal plate only use if putting skis on the rack other wise metal plate is not use for kayak. The picture in the instruction booklet re-guarding the plate dose NOT represent what skis really look like that why think people are getting confuse.

TristanTristan: I docked a star because the installation instructions are terrible. Had to read the reviews and see what others did. Just be aware, some of the reviewers have done it "wrong" regarding where the spacers go. Definitely put a towel down on the roof of your car when installing. It's pretty awkward to get on, and it fell off my crossbar while I was trying to get it on and the bolts that stick out on the bottom put a nice deep scratch on the roof of my new car. Would be nice if they offered rubber caps for the bolts. Also, it works, but the section that clamps around the roof rack seems like it could be fit better-- the top part is all right angles, despite most racks being curved.

So far, I've used the rack only once, but I was able to load a 12' Dagger Axis and 11' Dagger Zydeco at the same time, and haul them for a 170 mile round trip with no issue. And it has been nice to just leave the rack mounted and fold it down. It would be a bit of a pain to take the rack on and off regularly.

The rack by itself does not seem to add much wind noise or have any affect on my mpg while every-day driving.

Michael B.: UPDATE: I replaced the long clamp bolts with shorter ones and replaced the plastic knobs with nylon lock nuts. I also removed the black clamp plates completely, and it works fine.

I have round crossbars on my rack, so some of my comments reflect that.

- Mine did not come with any instructions at all. Fortunately, another user posted a photo that helped.
- The gear mechanism that allows the bars to pivot up and down is made out of so-so plastic. I imagine it would be the first thing to break.
- I don't fully understand the purpose of the black clamping plate if you are just going to use the rack for kayaks. It seems necessary for SUP boards and skis. But not for upright kayaks.
- The installation for me was time-consuming and challenging. I could take both my Thules on and off in about five minutes. It took me at least 30 minutes to install these, and I am not inclined to take them off anytime soon. It would actually be easier to take off the whole rack with them attached. Which I might do in the winter.
- Part of this is because of the plastic knobs used to clamp the device to the cross-bars. On round bars, you need to clamp the racks very tightly so they...

ChrisChris: I am updating this review to reflect some significant improvements resulting from several communications with Ikuram. This kayak rack had some good reviews and was listed as a universal mount design. It also had some negative reviews from buyers for whom the rack did not fit on their vehicles. I decided to give it a try, since both our vehicles have factory aero racks: and unfortunately, it just didn't work for our application. The first shipment was delivered early, but to the wrong state. Ikuram addressed this quickly and sent another rack via expedited delivery. At first glance, the kayak rack looked good: size is good, features look good, aircraft aluminum is a nice appearance and should hold up. Installation instructions were sadly lacking, but it is pretty simple to figure out how this has to be mounted on the vehicle. That's where the issues began. The original rack sent to me is by no means a universal mount design. Our 2018 GMC Acadia has a factory rack with aero crossbars, but the bottom of the original kayak rack is clearly meant for a square crossbar.
