Michelle Barrett: A very very good read true heroism of the 3 sisters

C.Stastny Books: This is a story based off real sisters from Slovakia who were imprisoned at Auschwitz and Birkenau. It’s their journey of trying to keep a promise to their father when they were young, to always stay together no matter what, because together they would be strong. And they survived 3 years in a death camp and the death march at the end to be together and make new lives for themselves. It’s pretty heartbreaking and inspiring all at once. Heartbreaking, because I can’t wrap my mind around how cruel normal people can be–how cruel they were! When I see the cruelty from normal people on social media platforms today, it makes me cringe to think our society could become just as cruel as the Nazis were to the Jews and those who sympathized with them. Stories like this make me step back and take note of my own behavior, to see if I am becoming calloused at all or willing to look away when others are bullied in any manner. I hope not to be. This is why I loved this story–it’s a true tale from history to warn us so we don’t make the same mistakes others did in the past.

Helen: A truly remarkable story of loss and survival and the settlement of thousands of Jews in Israel. Now is a very poignant time for their story to be read with the atrocities currently occurring in Israel and Gaza. So much loss and still they fought on.

Scott Jones: Although the circumstances of the book are horrific it is a wonderful story of family and survival. The historical account is very interesting and beautifully written.

runner: I've read The Tattooist, Cilka's Journey and Three Sisters. Heather Morris is not just an author, she's an artist of storytelling. She actually transports the reader into the soul of the characters - their pain and joy, even the guilt they carry for having survived a horrific ordeal perpetuated by pure evil. I can't wait for her next book.

Book Reader: ‘Three sisters’ is the final chapter in ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ trilogy,’ which also includes ‘Cilka’s Journey,’ all penned by author, Heather Morris, a lady fast becoming my favourite author.
As young girls, Cibi, Magda and Livia, made a promise to their father that whatever happens, they would always stay together. Years later, this pact is tested when their mother receives a letter from the authorities ordering that fifteen year old, Livia, be presented the next day for transportation to Auschwitz. Older sister, Cibi, (nineteen years of age,) cannot face separation from her sister, so follows her into the camp so she can ‘protect’ her.
Middle sister, Magda, survives the roundup because at the time she is sick in hospital and is spared by medical notes from her doctor. However, she will spend the next two years in hiding whenever there is a knock on the door, or escaping into the forest whenever news reaches her that the soldiers are coming to take her and the rest of the villagers away.
During their first two years in Auschwitz, Cibi and Livia survive the almost daily ‘selections.’ They do this by pinching their cheeks as hard...
