Glenn S.: This is nothing like the typical nylon rope you would buy in a hardware store, it's in a league of its own.

You can pull on it about as hard as you can and it acts like you're not doing anything at all. There is no stretch or any other indication of stress. I have no doubt that it will hold far more than any two or three people would weigh without being affected.

I tried holding it over the high open flame on my stove and it seemed to have no effect on it at all. In fact the rope barely even heated up. It left no markings or any indication that it had been exposed to open flames, so I have no doubt that this rope will not fail if exposed to any normal type of house fire, etc.

The only thing I would recommend to improve this product is to add some kind of easily visible labeling of its fire resistance and strength so that someone would know that this is not just another nylon rope. I think this would be good for both emergency use as well as a good marketing strategy.

I hope this helps. Thanks for reading and liking.

R. EvanoR. Evano: The media could not be loaded.  This is a sharp-looking 100% nylon 8mm rope in green with navy diamonds. I like that it is made in Pennsylvania. It is described as a one-time-use self-escape rope. This description is a bit foreign to me. “For immediate self-rescue of an emergency services person from a life-threatening situation above ground.” One time to ensure the condition is optimal, I suppose.

I don’t see why it can’t be used for general purposes. It’s a fine rope and seems more than sufficient for most situations, life-threatening or not.

It has a fairly strong odor to it, such that I did not like having it in the house and moved it out to the shed. I can smell it on my hands after handling it. It’s a somewhat acrid aroma, I assume from the chemicals used in manufacturing the fibers. Is it unwise to handle frequently, and that’s why it...

ScottScott: I have been involved in Search and Rescue for several years and have several different types of rope. This is my first heat resistant rope. The product site does not make any claim about how hot heat resistant means. They make no specific guidance about the heat limits of the rope at all except that the safety rope meets the NFPA 1983 standards. This means that the minimum possible temperature the rope could start melting is 400 degrees Fahrenheit. That's pretty good in my book.

I am actually going to use this as a fire escape rope from one of the higher first floor bedroom windows. I'm going to make an escape ladder that will allow my young kids to climb down eight feet to the ground. Eight feet is not very high, but for an 8 and 10 year old it's pretty high.

One reason why this rope can make a nice rope ladder is that it is not a Dynamic Rope. This means the rope has little to no give or stretch to it. This makes it the perfect rope.

Although this is the perfect rope for my ladder, just under $100.00 seems a bit expensive. I've spent much less for some fantastic rope, but not fire resistant rope. I'm sure this adds to the cost, I have no...

Mazy G.: I noticed several other reviews were already posted and wondered what I could add that would help someone deciding whether to purchase this rope. But being a Vine Voice, I like to review a product I’ve received.
First the safety rating of the rope. Certification- NFPA 1983 requires a technical-use life safety rope to have a melting point of not less than 400°F.
Next, I looked up the company RNR = Rock N Rescue in Butler Pennsylvania. They make a huge assortment of professional rescue gear for Confined Space Rescue, Water Rescue, High Elevation Rescue as well as the training gear for the people who do this type of work every day. So this isn’t just a basic homeowner rope that might help you escape from a second story home, this is the rope a firefighter would use to rescue you or someone in a multi story building that was on fire or exit the building himself if the way in wasn’t a option on the way back out. The rope does come in multiple colors on the RNR website so it looks like a different color than the description was sent to a few customers likely based on availability.
Researching this rope, I have even more confidence in the product and...
