Rachel W. White: Amazing story! I couldn't put it down at all. I would never have figured it all out. Wendy Webb is a fantastic writer and I want to read all she has written. Her writing has just the right amount of suspense and downright spooky, wonderful characters whose lives you get so caught up in and just can't stop reading.

Amazon Customer: Do i need to say anything about this book or the author?Nope. The work speaks for her. This is by far the most spellbounding story i have ever read.It was like seeing the actual thing happening just like Hallie "saw".

Kindle Customer: This wasn’t a bad storyline. I honestly thought we were going to find out someone was just trying to get the house. That was not the case. I was not surprised to find out about the housekeeper, especially considering how Hallie described her smell. All in all it’s a decent read.

Barb: Wow, wow, wow! Once I started reading I couldn't stop. This is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. The author's writing creates the images of her story in the mind of the reader as she takes you on an incredible journey of love, deceit, trickery, ghosts, and finally closure.

Mom-life: I loved this book. Adventure, old houses, history, and great characters. It takes you away to an island, I wish I was from.

Colleen T.: This is the third novel I've read/listened to by Wendy Webb (I've also read The Vanishing and The Fate of Mercy Alban) and what I've really come to appreciate about her novels is her utter ability to spook me. She has this way of using bumps and creaks and whispers to raise the hair on the back of my neck and I just find that so delicious! She has this innate ability with descriptions to completely wrap the reader/listener into the story, which can be a little unnerving given the author's propensity for thrills and chills. Before beginning any of her books I know, from the descriptions and past experience, that I'm in for a treat, and The Tale of Halcyon Crane was no exception.
I actually purchased a paperwork copy of the book years ago, but already having three (!) paperback books I'm reading right now, as well as an eBook, I thought I'd have a better chance of getting to The Tale of Halcyon Crane more quickly if I listened to it on my commute. The narrator, Cassandra Campbell, was exceptional and hit all the qualities that I've come to love in an audiobook narrator. She was able to keep the tension taut when the story required it, but also give levity and humor to the...

S. Wachter: I recently finished The Tale of Halcyon Crane, by Wendy Webb. When I finished it I knew I wanted to do a review. Why? That's a bit less straightforward. Essentially the story is a tale of mistaken identity-Halcyon grows up the child of a widowed father, or so she believes. The book begins with a letter informing her that her mother has recently died and left her a bequest. She need only return to Great Manitou Island in Lake Superior to get it. (There will be more about Great Manitou Island later-it's another case of mistaken identity.)
She returns to the island to discover that her father initially fled with her to escape murder charges-and indeed, he has been suspected of having killed her; Hallie is as much a surprise to the islanders as her mother is to her. I won't spoil the story for you, except to say that in the end I was a bit disappointed; it seemed a bit contrived, and there were too many unanswered questions for my taste.
But-and here's why I wanted to review this book-one thing that does not disappoint is Webb's creation of Great Manitou Island, where the story is set. As I indicated above, this is another case of mistaken identity-one that Webb hits...

Katseye1977: In this twisted tale, Hallie finds out that the life she has been living is a lie. She is summoned to an island in the great lakes where her mother had left instructions with her lawyer. Inheriting an estate is wonderful, but one that might be Haunted, not so much! Hallie has to find out who her ancestors were and what their stories were and why had some of them not left. And she also needs to learn her own story in order to protect herself and those important to her from the evil that resides in her new home. What an excellent read! Highly recommend!
