Phil Buckley: I have been looking for a clear and comprehensive guide on grammar for many – I found it. Mignon Fogarty navigates grammar rules and common practices in an engaging and fun way. Her humor is enjoyable and within the context of what she is communicating. I bought the e-book version and then soft copy to keep in my office. These "quick and dirty tips for better writing" have helped me be a better communicator, both professionally and personally. I am delighted.

jomak: Where do I start. First, I like grammar. Who likes grammar? I imagine, anyone reading the reviews of this delightful book. I said, I "like" and not "love" grammar, which allows one's interest to remain a fascination, and not evolve into a fetish.
Secondly, it is written by ... THE GRAMMAR GIRL! Yes, I am aware I wrote that loudly (Sorry)
However, can one whisper when speaking about the goddess of linguistics? Perhaps some, or many can ... but NOT ME! (Sorry again)
You may be wondering, does he like grammar or love the grammar girl?
No need exhausting weary synapses firing those inquisitive neurons; just buy the book! You will be a better writer, if you write, and you will speak better, especially if you speak formally. If you do neither, you will still benefit. For example, you will know when to use "affect" or "effect", "me" or "myself" and that you never, absolutely and unequivocally ever, write, or say, "anyways".

autodidact: I've always enjoyed Mignon Fogarty's lucid style on matters of grammar, punctuation, usage, and style, so making this book one of my first Kindle purchases was an easy decision.

The book was an extremely rewarding read (as someone who's read a lot of writing books, I still picked up some things I hadn't known or had forgotten), and I have no reservations about giving it the five stars it deserves. As with other authors in this field, you get a whole lot of bonus instruction by paying careful attention to the author's own written English.

That said, I felt there were a number of missed opportunities for even more great content. Although the goal obviously hadn't been to write an exhaustive tome a la Fowler, Garner, etc., many of the missed opportunities seemed to be natural inclusions that wouldn't have required much extra space.

What follows is a fleshed-out list based on my Kindle notes. I'd love to see these suggestions used for a second edition, but if other readers get some ideas for further exploration and independent learning -- or even give me new ways of looking at some of my own problem areas I mention -- that's good enough for...

Yeo Mamma: This book approches grammar in a fun way, and is easy to understand. I really enjoyed reading it and feel that I have a slightly better grip on my grammar already, and I have only read a few of the chapters.

When I first saw the grammar girl series I grabbed a few at once and this is one of the books I grabbed. This book is great and has helped me to understand and use these tips in my daily life and writing.
