Marshall Nichols: I mounted this on a sport boat, so a small transom, about 10 inches from the prop, it works up to about 12 MPH and then blanks out, but it does what I need it to, depth finding in the shallows to save my props from damage. It was cheap enough, that I'm willing to overlook a lot, and does what I need to for minimal $$

Amazon Customer: I still haven't figured out how to get the clock to be in my time zone. I use this for kayak fishing in the ocean. I thought that the GPS would come in handy, but I have barely looked at it, kind of hard to make heads or tails with what you are looking at. The fish finder is nice and easy to use. It seems pretty accurate. I haven't used the Clearvu or the quickdraw maps, which are the main reason I shelled out the extra money for this device. If you just want something to put on your boat / kayak and find the fish, you don't need everything this has to offer. Go for the cheaper model.

Tara Fehr: We just tried out our new Garmin Fishfinder this weekend for ice fishing. We found it very easy to use, but they could definitely add more instructions!!! We basically had to figure everything out on our own. Sitting in one place we didn't get to use the ClearVu or mapping, but really liked the traditional view and the Flasher View. It seemed very accurate and was fun to use. One downfall was that it did not come with a battery, which we only figured out just before it arrived, so we ended up spending more money on a battery and bag combo. Now that we have both, we definitely love them!!!!

ConsumerJoeConsumerJoe: I purchased this to upgrade grey scale fish finder on my kayak. The mounting is very low profile when you unclip the depth finder and the rotating arm portion. Believe it or not, I have run this for 5 hours on a super light / small 12v drill battery. I mounted the transducer under my seat using packing foam and caulk to basically make a small bathtub which holds the transducer snugly. I was able to map a pond in short order (16ft max depth). You have to play with the zoom feature on the map in order to see the contours. Once zoomed in you can see it in action. The cons of this unit is you cannot download your maps, but for the price that is a small sacrifice. My work around for this- I panned around on the map and took several pictures that I puzzled together to get the whole pond map that uploaded here. I really am impressed with this one!

Amazon Customr: I love a lot of things about this fishfinder: the traditional screen is clear and easy to read in bright sunlight, but the Clearvu is not if you're wearing polarized sunglasses. Even though I spent a lot of time learning to use it, I'm still no expert in its operation. An owner's manual that actually explained some of the functions and why one would be better than another, for example, would be useful. In order to use the fishfinder, I had to buy a separate battery and charger, so I bought the Garmin portable fishing kit to get most of the rest of the stuff I needed to start fishing. I understand that it is a merchandising thing, but it doesn't win Garmin any points in my book. Including the cover for the fishfinder would also be a nice touch instead of it being an optional accessory. I like that it comes with a couple of different mounting options, the transducer and power cable. It needed better operating and installation instructions, but after watching several Youtube videos and searching online a lot, I was able to figure it out. Overall, I still love it!

France l.: There are still things I’m figuring out about this item but I really like it. I chose Garmin because I have another product from them and it never failed me in 11 years.
I would recommend it.

Silljer: Only used a handful of times so far but I’m impressed with how much you get from it at an affordable price. The transducer is longer than I expected which leads me to believe it’ll have a better chance at breaking off but only time will tell. I plan on purchasing the ice fishing kit and using it through out the winter as well. All in all it will be a very helpful product. The only thing I would like to see added would be Wi-Fi capabilities so it could be connected to the captain app.

Norman Morrison: The Garmin Striker Plus 4Cv with Cv20-TM transducer comes with everything you need to install on your boat or on your trolling motor.

I chose it among other reasons for its low profile for my baby bass & crappie boat. (Sundolphin Sportsman 8.5.) Since you shouldn't drill holes in plastic boats I chose to hang it onto my trolling motor. Unfortunately the transducer was a bit too long so I shoved it back against the trolling motor fin which means it was canted to one side. I cleverly shimmed it out with some pieces of rubber and it's halfway vertical anyway. No matter... It still works PERFECTLY.

Not terribly impressed with the bottom map making feature at this point. However the GPS is NEAT for adding waypoints at choice locations. It's been on 3 outings so far and all is el perfecto.

I have been doing depth finders since the days of the spinning fish flashers. Clever users could actually interpret stray flashes as fish. Sort of. I must say...just a few years ago the technology you get in this little package would have cost hundreds more. It's truly amazing!

One thing I did run into...and this may be just my brain...but it has a "day" and "night"...

riceguy: Great fish finder for the money. Compact and easy to install. The articulable base/arm as well as the unit itself are removable from the base plate. The base arm rotates 360 degrees and tilts basically 180 degrees (restricted only by the top or bottom edge of the unit).

There's no card slot, but enough built in memory to store more than enough user built charts, however you can't load preexisting charts onto this unit.

Great depth finder with GPS, MOB (man over board) function and simple and easy to use overall. I think it's lying about all the fish it's finding though.
