MR P A HODGSON: I've tried other in car usb adaptors but these Garmin ones are excellent. They stay stuck into the power socket (unlike some cheaper ones I've tried) and put out a reasonable current, plenty to power a sat nav amd/or dash cam. Bit expensive but worth it.

ainsworth: For me this works beautifully. I can plug this into my accessory receptical (cigarette lighter style) and then plug my Garmin into it and I have two charger ports with up to 2.4amp output, making it suitable for Apple products or quick charging Android devices.

If your accessory receptical is in the dash, you should be aware that it will a bit more than double how far the garmin plug sticks out from the dash. This is a non-issue for me because my accessory receptical is in the console.

Kinghazzah: The USB ports make it easy to charge your phones etc but the only drawback maybe that it does increase the length of your outlet when you plug something additional into it such as the Garmin Car Charger. It does work well though so I give it a 5 for that but the 4 because of the length. I don't think that much of anything can be done with this part of the design, again if you can live with this it works well!!!!!!!

OzThinking: Great pass thur design to plug in any device and still have 2 usb ports available to connect other devices you need to charge. Side placement of usb ports help keep the extra cables out of the way of interfering with great shift or drink holders in my car. My only wish is that it came with a cover or plug to keep dust and little fingers out when GPS is not plugged in and USB ports are still being used. I plan to buy a second one for my other car. Handles simultaneous charging of GPS, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 tablet with no sweat, no overheating and reasonable charge rate.

seldom-write: Garmins NUVI may have a standard USB connector for power transfer, but its car charger is smarter than just a generic USB adaptor; it's also a radio receiver for traffic updates, so the GPS unit gets confused if you use another charger, as it's not receiving data it expects.
This means you have to use it to get the most from the NUVI, at the expense of being able to charge anything else.
This multi charger not only allows me to plug the neccesary power adapter for my GPS, but also means I can power a dashcam - without worrying it will stop recording if I drive too long - and my phone - which I use in partnership with the GPS, as the GPS locations aren't always up to date - into a single socket. I can also switch to charge a tablet (tried a couple of Android tablets) instead of the phone.
I've given it four stars because I'm in two minds about its need. It is a Garmin product, suggesting Garmin see a problem with the fact their GPS charger takes up the whole socket on its own - and you don't really have a choice in using it - so are cashing in on something they could not only have included with the basic GPS unit, but could be designed to fit better in the car; a NUVI...
